If you send it in for repairs, they usually update their database with your new serial number. If you exchange it in store or if they didn't update their database with your new SN, you are screwed.

If you are playing those games on the same console that they were originally purchased, then yes, you CAN play them offline in full registered mode. If your console serial number is different (for any reason), then you can still play those games... but only as a DEMO... and all of the limitations associated with the demo version.

Usually? They didn't for me nor for anyone that I know.

Oh? I haven't had to go through the process yet, but I still hear a lot about people who have had replacement systems that did not update their DRM, so if they have something in place it sounds like it's a crapshoot whether it goes through for you or not (and how many times you're willing to deal with their customer service reps if it didn't). As it was pointed out earlier.. most people have had a flippant attitude about the issue up until Xbox Live was down for three weeks (three weeks, wow) and the problem was brought more into the forefront.

I know earlier after (several) calls to their service department after a replacement system, they would issue codes to replace all the points you had previously bought. I hear a lot of people saying recently that they have to delete and redownload their XBLA games on a replacement so something is in place from the points replacement method.. but it doesn't seem to be widespread. Like I said, because of the downtime, a lot of forums are piping up with more people running into issues with it.

Nope, I'm playing them (FULL versions) on a completely different console.

When my "premium" 360 bricked, even before calling MS to get a coffin, I bought a new "arcade" 360 (with HDMI) to hold me over. Even though I've gotten my original 360 back since then, I still have my replacement 360 hooked up.

MS wouldn't know about my new 360, so I don't think that's it either.

Unfortunately, they stopped doing that.

Well then, you are the only one that I know that can play their arcade titles offline in full registered mode on a different console.

Live was down for three weeks straight? Holy shit! When was this?

It must be tied into the hard-drive, since that's the only constant between the two consoles.

Its not. My 360 died about three hours after I bought it. I exchange it at Best Buy and kept the hard drive from the first. No offline games for me.

Tech support had me fax in my purchase receipt and my exchange receipt. That was about five months ago. About 25 calls later, I still can't play games offline. "By the end of the month for sure"... "You'll be getting a call from tech support this week"... "We're updating our system so I can't help you right now"... "I can't transfer you to anyone higher up"... Yeah right. All lies.

If that was the case, nobody would be having issues.

slop101 01-11-08 03:54 PM

Then I wonder what the deal is.

Definitely, it's a strange occurrence, all things considered.. but consider yourself lucky. :D2:

I did the exact same thing you did (haven't even gotten the replacement back yet) and I have to be signed in to play XBLA games. And like someone else mentioned, I have to sign in after my wife does just for her to play games I bought.

It really sucks.

And you seem to be a rarity - play the lotto!

We should get a free xbox classic game instead of an arcade game, lets hope they give us more than one option for it.

Not offline you're not...not unless you re-bought the games.

:insert "I don't want a free game I already have" comment here:

KingSmoth 01-14-08 01:27 AM

They'll probably keep delaying it, hoping that most people just forget about getting a free game in the first place.

RVP 01-22-08 03:54 PM

Undertow is supposed to be free for a week starting Wed 23. Full details here Undertow free
Sorry if this was posted already, I didn't see it and wanted to make sure everyone knew.

Michael Corvin 01-22-08 05:43 PM

Yes it's been posted, but thanks for the reminder.

Schloob1 01-23-08 02:24 PM

I can confirm that if you call support they refund the 800 points if you have already bought Undertow. Make sure you are online as they asked me to confirm while on the phone still that I saw the increase in my balance.

Trevor 01-23-08 03:41 PM

And sorry to post this in multiple threads, but it seems appropriate here.

While you are downloading your free Undertow, there are three other free games on XBLA.

Aegis Wing
Carcassonne
Totemball (if you have the camera only)

I think you're right, sorry.

Yaris is also free, but most Atari 2600 games are better than it.
