Help me pick my next PS3 game!
I'm ready to start my third PS3 game after completing Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted.
Which one should I go with next? Edit: typo in the poll options, sorry. |
Of those, I'd say Orange box for Portal alone. Such a great game.
|
Out of those Call of Duty. I had heard great things about it, but was hesitant about it since I don't really do FPS... but it's a blast.
Oblivion is fun if you like RPGs. I've heard Assassin's is fun for like 4 hrs and then gets old.. and I've heard the graphics on Orange Box are kind of weak. |
I picked Call of Duty 4, even though I haven't played it myself. I'd recommend Orange Box but all the performance problems supposedly on PS3 make me think you should play it on 360 or PC.

I'd go with Oblivion.
It's a great game, and it's loooong, so you'll definitely get your money's worth. And speaking of money, I think Oblivion is selling at a reduced price now (at least at Target). Also, from what I've heard, all of those games except for Oblivion are done better on the 360, not that it really matters. However, I'm interested in giving Warhawk a spin, and although I've heard mixed things about Folklore, I'm still intrigued. Have you considered either of those? |

I recommend COD4. It's an excellent game with great online play. I've never been much for FPS, but COD4's easiest setting made it a breeze for a newbie like me. I'm going to play through again on a harder setting. Most reviewers have been calling it the PS3 Game Of The Year. I think that's pretty well deserved.
I enjoyed Portal. My only complaint was the long load times after each death. But it was a unique game that everyone should play at least once. I haven't had a chance to play through the rest of the Orange Box, so I can't really comment on that yet. I've heard that Valve is working on a patch to fix some of the PS3 issues. They're even taking suggestions at their website. So you might want to wait until that patch is released. |
All are good choices save for Assassin's Creed.

call of duty
on a side note i hope they start the greatest hits up soon. ive waited over a year and resistance is still full price |

Half-life 2 and the Source Engine are a little more than 3 years old (HL2 originally came out Nov '04). Of course the graphics are going to look dated... because they are. The graphics are still beautiful considering its age. Only a complete graphics whore would call the graphics weak. |

I don't have a PS3, but speaking from a general gamer perspective, COD4 is fantastic, in both single and multi-player.
The Orange box would be a good decision as well, but if you're just playing Portal, you could always just rent it. Assassin's Creed still hasn't been patched for the PS3, no? |
Both Orange Box and Creed may require a patch? I've read about the issues with the PS3 and Orange Box, but Creed's issue is new to me.
|
I believe Creed has been patched
|
Well regardless of which you choose, here's a $10 off a PS3 game coupon for BB ...from my home away from DVDtalk, CAG.
|
What did Creed have to be patched for? I played it through when it first came out on PS3 with no problems. I bought it on release day.
|
Maybe I'm wrong about that. I thought I saw a few posts on joystiq, kotaku, and cag that talked about some issue that needed patched.
|
I remember there being some issues with more recent PS3 firmware that ended up being patched.
|
COD4 online is just so much fun.
|
There was an issue with Assassin's Creed where your character gets mirror-imaged in late stages and there's two copies of you running around. Not sure if it's an issue on the PS3 version, but that may be what was patched.
I played all four of these games on the 360 and loved all four. I would rank them: Oblivion Orange Box Assassin's Creed Call of Duty But I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. |

Assassin's Creed was good, I enjoyed it minute by minute, but there's just not a lot there. It's a pretty shallow game.

If you already own all the games, I would go with COD4, as a lot of the fun seems to be in multiplayer, and I always tend to try to play multiplayer games first. After all, when the next great FPS comes out, COD4 traffic will fall and then you won't be able to get the same experience... plus it's just a great game overall. The campaign itself won't take that long to complete, even if you don't like multiplayer.
I'd recommend Orange Box and Team Fortress 2, but the PS3 version... ugh. Portal is awesome, though, and is also short to pick up and play through. Oblivion, I'd wait for a time that you can devote just to it... it's definitely the most time consuming of all your options, if you like the game itself. Assassin's Creed can also wait, IMHO. |
