The Official Lost Odyssey Thread (Xbox 360) - US Release 02/12/08
This is Mistwalker's second Xbox 360 RPG. Pre-orders get a special code for free downloadable content (that will eventually be available to everybody some time after the game is released). The DLC is a new quest and a new weapon.
Check out a sample song from the game (Nobuo Uematsu):

I heard the Japanese version had some pretty bad frame rate issues. Still looking forward to this, but the reviews for Blue Dragon swayed me to not purchase it for $60, so hopefully this comes out better.

Not terribly surprising. Blue Dragon and Mass Effect (the other big RPGs) have framerate issues as well.

I didn't notice any frame rate issues with Blue Dragon, but the game did have a sloppy amount of screen tearing. It's pretty funny how many problems there are with extreme HD graphics. Low resolutions, blurry upscaling, 30 FPS is now standard, screen tearing.. I guess it's all worth it in the end so we can have gimmicky lighting effects over shining on everything though!

Lost Oddysey (360)
Anyone hear anything about this game. I have been waiting for a good RPG to come out on 360 that isn't named Oblivion. I heard this game was very similar to FFX.

...I liked Mass Effect more than Oblivion.
that said, I haven't heard much on Lost Odyssey outside of technical complaints from IGN (bad framerates in spots) and that it got a 9/8/8/8 from Famitsu Japan. And it has sold about 100,000 copies in Japan since launch in December '07 (1 in every 5 x360 owner over there owns it).

After finishing Mass Effect i've been trying to decide on another RPG to play. I've been leaning towards buying Blue Dragon, especially since the price just dropped, but with this dropping in a month I think i'll see how more reviews are.
Seems to be your typical Final Fantasy type, which i enjoy.

A friend has played through it, and he liked it a lot. His tastes are strange sometimes though. From what I've heard so far it seems a better bet than Blue Dragon though, especially if you like games like FFX. I'm a little tempted myself.

I already started a thread on this one:

I'm excited for it as I thought Blue Dragon was awesome (it's being made by the same people).. but the comparisons to Final Fantasy X make me severely nauseous. I hope Lost Odyssey is nothing like that, but seeing how it is four DVDs of pre-rendered cut-scenes, it's not looking in my favor. Hopefully Mistwalker still realizes that the G in RPG means "Game," something that Square forgot about Final Fantasy years ago.

So what's the word on this, I have seen mixed previews. I really am leaning toward picking this up. Any early reviews out yet for the NA version, or should I just go by the Japanese reviews.
If the only problems are slight framerate isses and loading times then I will pick it up. I am looking for a solid story and game play most of all.

Gametrailers loved the story, Gamespy didn't.
The gameplay is apparently solid, people agree there are technical issues (Framerate, loading, etc; ) but never too horrible.
The story though? People seem incapable of agreeing.

I'll be picking this up either tomorrow or Wed depending on when my EB gets it in. I'll post some impressions by the weekend. I'm looking forward to starting a new RPG.

I've decided this will be a "wait for the price drop" game. I just picked up Blue Dragon after the drop, so I think this will follow suit sine the reviews weren't spectacular.
