So I game quite a bit as some of you may know. I just purchased a 42" Panasonic Plasma. Just wondering if anybody has the same model and what a 360 looks like on it.

Nope - it sucks for gaming

j/k - just make sure to hook it up with Component/HDMI/VGA and enable HD mode. It will look sweet.

And turn down contrast/brightness right away to prevent burn in.

Hard to tell if anyone has the same model if you don't provide that info.

I have a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma Vieja.. and the 360 is gorgeous on it. The Wii also... PS3.. all hooked up with Component Cables.

I have a standard DVD player hooked up with Components also.. and when I watch GlenGarry Glen Roos, you can see the pores in Jack Lemmon's face. Phenominal television.. i'll only buy Panny's or Samsung Plasma/LCD's.

That's the name of the model? The "Vieja"?

Please, be kidding...

* checks Google *

Are you kidding me? Your TV is called "Old Woman"? Wonderful.

I think it's 'Viera'.

I do all of my gaming on a 50" Panasonic plasma. I previously had a 42", but it was a 2003 model.

Nice, that's what I got too. the 42pz700U. The 360 looks awesome connected via component. (don't have an HDMI 360).

I have the 75u(a step down w/out the anti glare) and another vote for component looks awsome. I know this isn't exactly the right forum, but what color settings do you guys use for 360 gamming? i am still trying to calibrate mine.

We have the 50inch Panny Plamsa, with the PS3 and Wii hooked up to it. The PS3 looks amazing and the Wii isn't too bad(what can you expect).

As for the settings, that would depend on you specific environment.

Don't forget to burn in the TV. There is a dvd that someone made specifically for burning in the plamsas.

check out avsforums for the burn in disk

I have a 42 Panasonic I got last year, and I wouldn't trade for anything, but maybe a bigger size panny.

This TV looks hella sweet so far, and that's without even turning it on. I only have it hooked up to the DVD player via component. Watched a bit of Requiem for a Dream and it looked good but not great, mind you, I have all the settings turned to zero and haven't tweaked anything. Looking forward to some 360 on there but going to wait for a bit until I get a 100+ hours

I think it's okay to do some minor gaming. When I first got mine, Halo 3 just came out so I couldn't resist. I played in 3 hr bursts, and no image retention or anything.

Rent or buy one of the home theater calibration discs (Avia, Video Essentials, etc).

I used Video Essentials. I had a guy come over once to adjust my OTA the antenna so I could get HD locals. He was ISF certified and did professional calibration of displays for the best picture. I asked him about how much it would cost and he told me not to bother as it looked great and he probably wouldn't be able to make it look much better.

Haven't played much gaming but have played Halo, GOW, NHL 08 and Puzzle Quest in all short periods of time. I noticed Puzzle Quest, the battle screen is different, why is that? Before your mana levels would be directly next to your character, but when I played on the new TV, my mana levels were below my character. Why is this?

What's better, 720p or 1080i to play games on?

RVP: Which settings do you use?

Black level - Light

I am not sure about these settings tough, I have been trying to find a balance but my 360 RROD 2 weeks ago.

Oh and I set my xbox to output in 720.

So far so good. I am not sure how to explain this but if I am playing Oblivion or Halo, it looks like certain structures, ie trees, buildings sort of have a shimmering effect to them. A straight edge on a building far away has the effect that it looks like it is moving. Not sure if that makes sense but thought I would ask.
