Quick Guitar Hero Question: PS3 backward compatibility?
I have a very small window to get a good deal on a 60gb PS3 with GHIII and a couple of other games, but I'm having trouble tracking down one piece of info.
If I have the PS3 version of GHIII with PS3 guitar, is it fully backwards compatible with GH and GHII for PS2? I know the PS2 guitars have issues on PS3, but what about the games themselves?
I'll keep looking, but thanks in advance.

It is not.

That statement doesn't really make much sense to me.
I think Harmonix is planning a patch for compatability with the other controller, but how does the help Sony?

Sidenote from Kotaku:
The Harmonix community manager writes at the official Rock Band forums that a routine patch for the PlayStation 3 version of the game is coming soon, one that will address "a number of items related to guitar controller compatibility." The patch was expected to be released yesterday, but unspecified circumstances have delayed the software update. While not officially confirmed, it's assumed that this is in reference to adding support for Guitar Hero III Les Paul controllers. Good news for PS3 Rock Band owners who are sorely in need of a bassist, bad news for those who bought the PlayStation 2 version of Guitar Hero III because they didn't see the point in buying another guitar controller. I am, of course, referring to myself, and regretting my lack of foresight on the matter.

Thanks fellas...and I have to say...that is really stupid. REALLY REALLY stupid.
I decided not to get the PS3...for this and other reasons, and I'm thinking that my PS2 may be my last Playstation. It's the end of an era. I may get a white PS2 when they come out though...to live next to my Wii.

GH and GH 80's are both compatible on the PS3. However, if you play hard to expert, you will want to pass as you can't do hammer on's and pull off's.
I only play medium and occasionally hard, so both GH 1 and GH 80's are fully compatible for me on my 60 gb PS3. Of course, you need to buy a USB adapter. I bought the radioshack one and it works perfectly.
If anyone has any questions about getting setup, let me know. The info out there is very misleading and wrong and I went through many trial and errors to solve this problem so I could craigslist my slim.
