Is this really what television thinks of video games?
This is one of the worst representations I've ever seen of video games:
http://gamernode.com/news/5247-atten...ork/index.html And if you just ignore the video game aspects, just focus on the writing, acting, and overall quality of the show, it's still just as bad. Holy crap, is Life really that poor of a TV show all the time? I thought this was a horrible parody of video games in general until I realized it was an actual scene, from an actual TV show. How could anyone not only watch this show, but take it in the least bit seriously? Meh, I'll stop right there or else I'll run the risk of this thread being moved to the TV folder. |
I love it when they show kids playing video games and they still have Pac-Man and Space Invader type sound effects in the background.
|
I like when they perfectly are playing an Xbox, but they're using a PS2 controller, etc... I see that one all the time.
|
I bitched about this in the Life thread that particular week. It's beyond effing stupid.
That was also the last episode of Life I watched. |
Was that an Excel spreadsheet inside that Prince of Persia game?
Reminds me of some crazy older guy proclaiming that all game systems run on DOS. |
Well, pretty much how people who've never played a video game in their lives see them.
Just like how computer users never use a mouse. |
Holy shit when that girl was miming playing the game and that douche bag saw her and had his "epiphany", that was one of the most cringe inducing moments I've had in a long time.
So if someone sees me run in place will they insert me into the Olympics? |
I always find it funny that people on TV/Movies are always pushing the buttons like crazy. Like jumping requires 25 pushes of the A button or something.

One episode of Heroes had Niki "playing" Heavenly Sword. This was long before the game came out. What she was "playing" was the E3 trailer. Charlie's Angels had a scene with two boys playing one of the PS1 Final Fantasy games simultaneously. Final Fantasy isn't multiplayer... |
I thought Reign Over Me had a great representation of a video game "Shadow of the Colossus" I think it was.
|
I immediately thought of that episode of life when I read the thread title . I swear whoever wrote that entire episode was on acid.
|
I'll never forgive them for stupifying Prince of Persia 3. "You Died, Play Again?" WTF? "You win, advanced to level 2." So retarded... And the guy falls in a bit and doesn't bother rewinding time? So you live in your mom's basement, have a Captain Kirk uniform, AND you suck at video games...
|
going on stereotyping alone, that main guy was who I would have pegged as the geek

I often wonder why, at some point, someone doesn't raise their hand and say "this looks stupid - why don't we just use an actual video game with the correct controllers, the right game and all that jazz?"
Of course, it wouldn't be the first thing that movies didn't portray correctly. |
Can't remember what movie it was right now, but they were playing Xbox games... in 1999.

I wonder how much of that is due to licensing costs. Perhaps they don't want to pay to use the actual controllers and sound effects. |

Then they shouldn't try to make playing video games a riveting, central part of a plot, in the first place.

You all realize that this is the case for all sorts of things in television and movies right? They get stuff wrong all the time by mistake or on purpose to make something more entertaining. We just notice this because we're familiar with games.

It's just like those "photo enhancer" programs all those cop shows seem to have now.
"Enhance and zoom in to show the persons face." -ohbfrank- |

If you read Roger Ebert's website, he's been going out of his way to proclaim several times that video games are not an art form.
