That looks awesome. I never knew I'd be into these types of games until MS offered Aegis Wing for free. I've been looking for something similar for awhile. I'll be looking forward to this one.

Any other suggestions?

Ikaruga rocks and will rock you and if I recall correctly should be up on the XBLA in the future.

I love me some Ikaruga.

I've been hearing about this game (Soldner-X) for ages now (avid Play-Asia shopper), glad to see it's near completion, didn't know it was PS3 bound.

TONS. But, you really need a import capable PS2 (or a Dreamcast) to get the really great stuff.

Domestically, get Gradius V for the PS2 NOW. Castle Shikigami 2, also for the PS2 is awesome and should be dirt cheap (or free). Castle Shikigami 1 was released in a gimped form as Mobile Light Force, also cheap. Those two are probably the closest you can get to the stuff I really like here (vertical, bullet-hell style). Xbox Live Arcade has a few good ones coming soon, Ikaruga (and possible Radiant Silvergun), Trigger Heart Exelica and Omega Five.

Looks like Gradius V is still fetching a fair price ($25+ on half/ebay), so it looks like waiting on XBLA is the way to go. Thanks for the suggestions.

I forgot to mention, Castle Shikigami III is headed to both Wii and 360 next month (no US release yet).

Edit: I see something hot on this page:

Ooh, now that's sexy!

Sign me up for the PC version, as I'm assuming that'll have a much higher resolution than the console version. I can't seem to find a pre-order for it though - is it domestic?

*edit - I found it on play-asia (and ordered the limited edition) - I hope I don't have any trouble installing it once I get it...

After actually watching the trailer I'm a little cautious about this.. but I'll still be following it.

There's no English equivalent for the ö or the ü. The best I can say is make your mouth into a small "o" and roll up your tongue: it should sound something like Steve Martin trying to pronounce "hamburger" in Pink Panther. Or like a slightly higher-pitched version of the u in bureau.

Zeldner-X: Him-mel-shtur-mer.

So you get us all hyped up on a game, then actually watch what you posted and now you aren't sure if it'll be good?

Yeah, I'm horrible. In my defense, the screenshots look good and that's all I had to go off of when I saw the news and posted about it at work. I couldn't download the video until I got home. I'm still excited, but I'll be keeping an eye on impressions over at the shmups forum since the PS3 version comes out months after the PC version.

Which is worth it just for this exchange alone:

I called every Gamestop in town for either Gradius or Shikigami yesterday. Nada.

You could try ebay. I didn't get Gradius V that long ago, but I got a new copy for pretty cheap on ebay (about $20 shipped). Now it seems like you can't find it for less than $25 -and that's for a used copy, before shipping. I wonder what happened.

Don't know. GS's prices are $14.99 for Gradius and $5.99 for CS2. Far cheaper than half/ebay.
