According to the save games I've spent 20hrs on this so far, and I don't think I'm anywhere close to the end. I just came from Feros (I think that's how it's spelled) and

Spoiler:
fought an evil plant

How far would you say I am?

Spoiler:
Depends, have you hit the other two planets yet? I did Feros last and went from there to the final bit. It really just depends on what else you've done!

I'm having a tough time with this game. Playing vanguard. What's the easiest clas to play?

Is there a cool down time for using medigel? If so, what is it? It seems like i can only use medigel once per fight.

Is there any way to skip those cut scenes? I keep dying and its a pain in the ass to keep watching the cut scene to replay a fight.

Easiest Class? In my opinion Vanguard.

Yes, the cooling time is displayed on the HUD next to your health/shield information. The amount of medi-gels you have also appears on the icon. (the top icon is for medi-gel, the bottom is for grenades)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, it depends on the cut scene. Where are you dying at?

Okay, I just finished it (around 25 hours), and while I really liked it, I'm pretty pissed off right now. For whatever reason, I just assumed that after you finish the main quest, the game would still be "open" to let you explore and take on the side-missions you may have missed (like in Oblivion). But nope - it just fucking ends, and doesn't let you go back and do shit. What the fuck man? It would've been so easy to implement too.

nickdawgy 11-25-07 06:56 PM

Not alot of games allow you to do that so it's no surprise. That's why I always do the side quests first.

Is the Limited Edition of this game really that hard to find?

It was (and still is) only available on-line. Even though it wasn't exclusive to any specific store (you can get it either from EB or amazon or whatever), it wasn't made available at any physical store location. I felt it was worth the extra $10.

Definitely is worth the extra $10. The bonus DVD has four decent documentaries about the game and bioware and the design gallery is amazing!

Noonan 11-26-07 07:50 AM

I'm trying to get an idea of how long the game is. Without any spoilers, how many missions are there after the three you get when you first leave the Citadel? I've done a bunch of side missions and one of the three and I'm at about 11 hours right now.

slop101 11-26-07 10:35 AM

I'd say you're about half done (maybe more) - look for some more side-missions. It's certainly not a long game - even if you tackle all the fetch quests (which get really boring), you're looking at not much longer than 30 hours.

My only problem with doing the side missions later was that I felt silly trying to rescuing someone's cat while I'm out trying to save the Galaxy...

nickdawgy 11-26-07 11:24 AM

I'm now about 20 hours in and I did 2 of the 3 quests you get after the Citadel. I am still doing side quests, though.

I find the side quests fun, not boring or repetetive at all.

At all? Do more - not only is there only one kind of "dungeon" that just keeps repeating in most of these quests, but the rest of them consist of fetch quests of exploring a planet to find some trinket - cool at first, very boring by the 6th one - and there's many more to go.

I don't mind it at all... Yeah all the 'dungeons' are the same, but it gives me a chance to boost up my XP as well as throw my enemies all over the place with my biotics. A blast!

I've got a $50 gift card to Toys R Us and am thinking about picking up Mass Effect.

I really enjoyed both KOTOR games, but did not care for Jade Empire (just could not get into it for some reason, the pace just seemed off). Aside from the obvious sci-fi slant, is Mass Effect more like Kotor or Empire??

How many have you done? Because the side-quests that throw enemies at you are few and far in between. Sure, the main story was great, but the side quests were all too similar. Visit random planet, drive Mako (on identical terrained planets) to research lab / compound, kill a couple enemies, go to plot point. It got pretty tedious and that's not even mentioning the minerals and probes that are to be surveyed, which just gets pointless.

Noonan 11-26-07 03:49 PM

Yeah, I'm pretty bored with the side missions too. There's no variety with them. Even the maps of the buildings you go into get reused quite often.

CKMorpheus 11-26-07 06:55 PM

Well just complete it with a little over 24 hours of gameplay according to the save games, and with a Level 45 Vanguard specializing in Charm, Intimidation, and Spectre...ism(?), as well as a nearly 100% paragon. Does anyone know how many endings there are? Is there any word on a sequel? I can't wait to hop into the game again and explore other decisions.

I just looked at the GameSpot game guide to find out what the other endings are. It didn't mention specifics, but it did say "After completing the game, you'll unlock a new difficulty setting, Hardcore, as well as the ability to reach level 60 in the game. You can also restart the game with the same character you have now, at the same level. You'll need to ramp up the difficulty to keep things challenging, though. Or you can restart the game with a new character class for extra fun."

How can i do that?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just go to Start New Career and then select my existing character. Awesome

I'm bummed there's not more side quests. It doesn't bother me that the maps are the same, and the planets, I never paid attention to the terrain

QFT

I tried to scoop up every side quest I could.

timewaster 11-27-07 10:34 AM

I think i'm finally getting the hang of this game and not dying as much.

Now i'm running into a strange problem with the side quest - Major Kyle.
I go there and was able to talk my way into the building using charm. Then a voice tells me to head to the building at the far end of the compound. I go there (there is an x on the map) and there is a console. I click on it and it opens up a console monitor. What do i do next? I can't seem to use the console. Major Kyle is nowhere in the building.

Also, anyone playing a female char? I heard that there is a way to unlock a lesbian scene?

I had the same problem too. It's not a bug, that console is just another point of interest. Go outside that compound and look around, you'll find another bunker that looks like a silo within walking distance of that compound. That's where Kyle is.

Also, for the lesbian scene, I think the only way to achieve that is to sleep with the Asari Consort on the Citadel. You must have a higher renegade rating than paragon, otherwise she gives you a trinket, which is a whole 'nother story.

Yup. Not sure if it was what I said to him but the guy at the door told me to meet him at the building across the compound.

As much as I liked the game (easily top-10 in a very competitive year), there was definitely something "off" about the game, where certain aspects didn't quite jell with the rest of the game.

This article does a great job at detailing the possible reasons why it may have fallen short of it's intended goals. It's a great read even if you don't agree - but it's hard not to.
