Downloadable Content is up! 250MB add on, which seems fairly substantial in size.

Downloading now.

Downloaded it last night, I'll probably get to it some time this week. Can't wait!

slop101 03-10-08 12:20 PM

I read that it's a cool little side mission, but it's only about an hour long.

lordwow 03-10-08 02:04 PM

From what I've read on CAG, it's pretty much just a bunch of the same underground silos we've seen everywhere on another "unexplored planet."

I may pick it up, but I dunno.

fumanstan 03-10-08 04:30 PM

I loaded up an old save to try it out. Looks like it was similar to other side quests, although starting out it looks like there was some new NPC's to interact with that had a little more substance then the typical side mission.

nickdawgy 03-10-08 05:40 PM

I downloaded it, too. I never beat the game, though, so this will give me more to look forward to.

PopcornTreeCt 03-10-08 08:13 PM

Finally!! Can't wait!

Any of you play Bring Down The Sky yet? I've read that it's short - like 30 minutes - most of it spent in the ATV driving around an asteroid - 2 easy quest/missions - no significant reward. Is that the case?

I have 400 points burning a hole - can't decide on this or unlocking Uno or some other arcade game. Part of me feels cheated when I pay the asking price for a game and they keep trying to get money out of me. That's why I never got into MMORPGs.

But anyway - that's irrelevant. Is this worth 5 bucks?

nickdawgy 03-14-08 08:27 AM

Easily worth 5 bucks and I haven't even played it yet.

That's an interesting assessment.

Chris_D 03-14-08 08:45 AM

I haven't played it but I'm not bothering myself right now. It's got 50 AP, so that means 3 more packs like it presumably. Anyway, I'm going to wait and perhaps pick them all up at once (maybe cheaper as pack?), and use it as an excuse for a fresh play through.. maybe.. Nothing I've read about this one sounds particularly compelling, or essential for keeping up with the canon.

Games can have up to 1250, so it could mean 4 more packs.

IGN said they spent about 2 hours on it. I haven't played all of it yet, although i'll probably do it this weekend.

2 hours? Wow, that's a long time. Does this span multiple planets? Otherwise, I think the most I spent on any one non-major planet was like 30 minutes... two, maybe three generic bases and done. Does this have things that are significantly different?

Also, if other packs are coming out, I think I'll just wait... then when I go through the game next I can do all of them.

Chris_D 03-14-08 07:18 PM

Yeah I have to say, those generic planet missions were pretty boring for me (even though on my second playthrough I knocked them all off!). So there's no way I'd pay money for that. Really I expect something close to what is delivered in the opening 3 missions, well specifically like Novaria and Ferros.

No, I think you're on an asteroid the whole time. Here was their run through of it:

2 hours seems like a long time to me too. I guess i'll find out when I play through it over the weekend.

thegame370 03-14-08 10:28 PM

Downloaded it and played through it yesterday, nothing special really. Its basically like the standard side missions you encountered through out the game, only with a tad bit more story to it. It has also has a sub quest to it as well, but very basic. Took me about about 45 mins to finish the whole thing, unlocked the achievement and at the end, i felt like i experienced nothing new. Heres hoping the next download, if there is one, is a bit more exciting and more extensive than this.

fumanstan 03-15-08 02:19 AM

Just finished it. Took about an hour, with 4/5th of it the same as the side missions, with the last part of it a bit different as far as level design go and a fairly cool choice against the "boss" at the end.

Honestly, probably not worth the $5 unless you really dig the game and want the 50 achievement points.

PopcornTreeCt 03-19-08 08:02 PM

I played a bit of it last night and will finish it tonight. It's okay. I don't think it was worth the money. Like others said it's a side mission and one I probably wouldn't even bother to go to if it was actually included in the game.

But I'm doing this game over again kicking ass and taking names. This time with Wrex and Garrus hoping to get the Achievements for them and playing the game on a harder difficulty.

orderandlaw 08-05-08 10:30 AM

After finishing, I refreshed a friend's interest in replaying the game. As I watched, I noticed him having a harder time than I did and found out, TO MY HORROR, that I was playing on normal difficulty!!

Oh the humiliation... It's my custom to always play on hard: I have more fun being challenged than kicking ass, so to speak. If I played through next time, I'd try to focus on giving only jackass answers instead of being my usual Nice-Guy McBenevolence. For me, that's hard to do.
But I'm super curious as to how much it actually changes the game experience...

Also found out that I hung out on the same message board as the composers of the game's rad soundtrack, Jack Wall and the super-talented Sam Hulick. That song is so subtly complex!!
We entered the same amateur sound design competition. He won, and it landed him the job on Mass Effect.

The Bus 09-19-08 08:45 AM

A friend lent this to me and I'm playing through it now. Ever since Force Unleashed I've had a hankering to play KotoR and Mass Effect sort of scratches that itch. Only one problem so far...

The game is slooooow. Maybe I'm used to Oblivion's super-fast travel system but I think I've been spending half my playing time so far just walking around. I'm still only in the Citadel but I'm sure this will get better later. That's not to say the game is boring, but I wish it had more action or RPG elements and less walking.

Yes the early part of the game when you're first exploring the Citadel can try your patience, but once you get out of there and back onto your ship, it picks up big time.

slop101 09-19-08 01:12 PM

BTW, I don't know what gender you chose your character to be, but playing though most of the game with both choices, I'd have to say that the female voice actor for Sheppard destroys the male actor in every way - just made of a better experience all around.

The Bus 09-19-08 01:54 PM

I always play as a female. If I'm going to look at my avatar's ass all day, might as well be a chick and not a dude.

Of course, when you get the chance to bork some dude, it feels a little weird. :p I've been meaning to finish a play through as a guy though; my first character was a girl and I played through it twice. I agree that the guy's voice isn't as good.

But yeah, the Citadel parts at the beginning are really slow, but once you get off the planet it's fantastic.
