Starting out on XBox Live?

I have the month trial card for XBox Live, so I've been thinking about trying out a Gold membership. How does it work for noobs who've never really played multiplayer before? For instance, if I'm just starting Team Fortress, is it easy to joing a group of other noobs, or will I just end up getting destroyed every time I play? I'd also like to try PGR 4, but as with all video games I pretty much suck, so unless there's a place for people who don't know what they're doing, it seems like it might just be a sad experience for me.

I would find out if any of your friends have Team Fortress and add them to your friends list. There's aren't any matchmaking features on TF2. Same for PGR4... Just ask people for pointers or tips. Or add some of us to your friends list, we'll help you out. I've been playing Team Fortress for years and TF2 since the day the Beta was released.

Team Fortress is fairly forgiving based on the different classes and mission objectives. The hardest part would be knowing where you're going and what you're supposed to do. But with all the classes, i'm sure it's to find something you're good at. Plus, the team play makes it a little easier not to get destroyed over and over again, unlike a Deathmatch game.
