I have my video via Component (because component is video only....) and audio through the optical out. I don't get your questioning him or some of the statements you have made like saying sound via component... smaller viewing size via component/HDMI and/or 720P/1080i. |

I have my 360 (with HD-DVD add-on) connected using component for *video* and optical for audio. It will do 1080 out and Dolby Digital.
Yes, I do own a 360. What's this about 720p being 'smaller' than 1080? |

sorry for the tasteless comment, i was mad... as PerryD pointed out, the little socket is on the component cable itself! not on the X360 console itself... Mr Music, dude, i made a mistake, i didn't know the socket is built on the component cable! I checked the X360 for that little hole thoroughly! |

1. Use of HDMI, max resolution is 720p, so if you're using the add-on, you're pretty much screwed if your TV supports 1080... 2. Use of Component, max resolution is up to 1080p, nice for add-on, but the sound is no longer digital, yeap, it's analog! Sucks big time... 3. You can't use Component for video and HDMI for audio (you can do this with the PS3). So you don't have the option to maximize your connection, sad sad sad... Not only that, the X360 doesn't have another digital audio output to get around this problem, sigh, this is so freaking annoying. So, what did i do? Luckily the Onkyo receiver has a pretty good way "displaying" the sound through Stereo mode. However, not as good as if the X360 was connected via HDMI. Gear of War was totally an awesome experience in HDMI mode, the sound is so awesome that i really feel like i was in the battlefield! Every panting, cursing, grunts were so freaking realistic from the 5.1 surround speakers that i was totally absorbed into the game. Of course that all changes when i pop in Planet Earth hd-dvd into the add-on... the PQ was okay, but the display via 720p resulted in big ass black bars on my TV, sucks big time... Bottom line? The X360's sound via component is the same as that of the Wii, yeap.... This is another reason why i kept saying the PS3 is a far more superior piece of hardware. |

say whatever you want to say MC... you didn't offer anything useful...
As to my tasteless points, i retract all, apparently there's a viable work around to my problem. |

Again, if i have noticed that little socket on the component cable, i would have never posted about my frustrating experience.
Yes, it does make me look like an idiot, but hell, seriously, i didn't know there's a optical socket on the X360 component cable, sorry sorry sorry! |

Just went through my cables and stuffs, nope, i don't have an optical audio cable... Ordered one for $6 shipped from Meritline, so i guess i will be posting result when i get it. However, i still think the ultimate solution is to release an update with HDMI supports up to 1080p.
|
The 360 does do 1080P over HDMI. What TV are you using out of curiosity?

I was going to say, there's no way the 360 caps off at 720p over HDMI.

Of course the 360 can do 1080i and 1080p over HDMI. It would be really stupid if it couldn't. |

Have you actually set up the video options in the Xbox dashboard for your HDMI? You have to do that you know...just like setting up a new computer monitor. The 360 definitely outputs at up to 1080p. If it isn't, you're doing something wrong.

Is anyone else having trouble with XBL today? It's worse today than yesterday for me.

Can't connect for more than about a second or two.... I feel bad for Corvin... apparently he is connected and might be getting messages every time it tries to connect.

Crap with Live being down, I can't play any of my arcade games since I got this refurb. I have to be signed in so they won't show up as trials. It's funny my cousin who lives down the street has no problems getting signed in.
