Sure, the Wii hasn't had an outpouring of great games within it's first year, but, the releases are improving, and huge games are coming out. It would seem that most consoles go through this slow first year, and then things really heat up. I believe that it's a bit too early to be "disgusted" by something which is still coming to life. Back OT, since zero said he got a copy for their kiosk, I hope my local GameStop got it too so I can waste some time on it :D |
Reviews are coming in. I've read three reviews, several hands-on impressions, and from all accounts, this is the Super Mario game we've been waiting for. The latest comes from UK's Official Nintendo Magazine. A portion of the review has been reported at GoNintendo.com:
97%: “It’s funny because the thing that annoys us most is that its fantastic graphics show us the sort of games we could have been playing for the past year had some developers bothered to pull their finger out. Throughout the whole game the graphics constantly amaze, with stunning visual effects, some remarkably huge playing areas, and characters that are positively filled to the brim with personality. The sound is some of the best we’ve heard in a Mario game. Some of the power-ups give a similar sense of nostalgia. While some of the missions are quite simple, others will test the skills of even the most dedicated Mario fans.” - reviewer Chris Scullion http://gonintendo.com/?p=28025 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The wait for this game becomes more difficult! |
I've got absolutely ZERO hype for this game.
But I'm still getting it day one and I know it'll be awesome. |
full version rumored to be leaked on the net as of 10.25

According to a posting on NeoGAF, an unsavory EB Games employee decided to take the contents of an in-store Super Mario Galaxy demo disc and share it with the online world. Though the demo is usually constrained by a 10-minute time limit, the disc reportedly contains the full game and is fully accessible through use of a modified Wii console. As the pirate site offering the code isn't specified or linked to, it's difficult to verify whether or not Mario's currently making his way down some shady pipes. |
This just showed up completely on my local newsgroup. I'm still gonna buy it on opening day though.

I'm a little surprised by the lack of excitement for SMG. From what I've seen, it looks like a real return to form after the controversial Sunshine (which I liked, but not as much as Mario 64). I can't wait to play it.
|
I just read that this game has mod chip detection. Whether your galaxy game is an original or a copy, you will receive an error message and won't be able to play.

10, 9, 9, 10 from Famitsu.

Edit to add: sunshine was great IMO (can't imagine feeling "burned" by it as it provided a couple weeks of great gaming for me) - a little too much collecting blue coins. i hope SMG is more linear. |
Yeah ignore, it was a hoax.
|
I loved Sunshine, but didn't like collecting blue coins. I just don't see how someone could find them all without a guide, or why they would even want to.

Super Mario Sunshine is the only Super Mario title I don't own. I was never impressed with anything I read/saw about it, before it was released. Then, I read the impressions from people who played it, and wasn't convinced. I eventually rented it, played it for a while, and just didn't get into it. It didn't have the feel of a Super Mario title.
With Super Mario Galaxy, I already have the feel of it being a true Super Mario title, and I haven't even touched the game. I just have this feeling, and it has me very excited. In fact, Super Mario Sunshine is the only Super Mario title that never gave me that feeling. New Super Mario Bros. on Nintendo DS gave me that feeling, and it delivered. I just know that Super Mario Galaxy is going to deliver. |
I love Super Mario Sunshine but I could never enjoy Mario 64. I know its controls were revolutionary for its time, but for its time I could have played platform-perfection with the tightest-controls in Super Mario World or Yoshi's Island. Mario 64 felt like every surface was polished ice and Mario had oiled slicked shoes, it's just a nightmare to control the little guy in that game (in my opinion).

GoNintendo.com has posted information on new screens, with the link to view them.

Ok, I may finally be on board with this game. I went to Gamestop and the guy on duty and I were checking SMG on the display Wii and it looked fun.
