360 - Wireless Gaming Performance?

I wasn't sure if this belongs in the PC forum but it's about wirless performance with the 360. Anyway here is the issue.

I currently have the 360 hardwire directly to my router a Linksys WRT54G with DSL and there hasn't been a issue at all. We're re-doing our garage into a Rec Room where the HT/gaming will go. I don't have a cable, yet, running to the garage. The actual straight distance is about 50 feet or so. A cable run would be about 75' and be some work to get it there but still workable.

I'd like some feedback from those that either is using wireless for gaming or done both? Also I haven't really kept up with all the latest in hardware so is the current routers better in anyway in terms of reception and performance. My current router was highly recommended as a steller performer some years ago and I think still is. Thanks for any advice.

I use the official Xbox wireless adapter and I've never had a single problem. Hookup and setup are both a breeze, and the connection is as strong as a wired one. I'm using a Netgear MIMO router.

I use the Linksys WGA11B Wireless-B Game Adapter with a Linksys Wireless-B Router and haven't had any problems so far. I used it for my PS2 a few years ago so I thought I'd give it a try. I wasn't about to pay $90-100 or however much that Microsoft one is.

Cheapest/best(imo) route would be to buy a Linksys WRT54GL and use it as a wireless bridge. Then later on down the road you always have a great back up router if you don't need your 360 wireless anymore.

I have the 360 wireless adapter and a D-Link router. The router works great with both 360 and my PS3.

I use a WRT54GL router with until recently I was using a WET54G wireless bridge with no problem. Just last week I got off ebay the Microsoft wireless adapter for $55. It has performed with no problems.

No question. Or any router that you can flash with DD-WRT and put in a wireless bridge mode. Especially in a place that you might add more network devices that can use it.

I have 2 Buffalo WHR-G54S routers - one as the router next to the cable modem in the office and one as a bridge in my entertainment center. The 360, PS3, and PC are hooked into that bridge. I hooked the PS3 in there even though it is wireless because streaming from the PC locally wired through the bridge is much better than wirelessly. I still have an open port should I need to add anything else in the future.

Not only that, but these flashable routers are cheap.

I run a couple of Belkins in bridging mode, and a buffalo 54gs for my PCs which got moved downstairs. I've had people compliment my hosting on Gears :D

Yep I got Hyperwrt 2.1b1/Thibor15c fw on my router right now and I love it.

If you do buy one of these and flash it with 3rd party firmware, make sure you do some research so you don't brick it.

Like pinata said a wireless bridge will also allow you to add multiple devices to the router which is extremely useful!

Ok guys, help me out here. I'm getting an xbox 360 in the next day or two. Want to set up a wireless bridge with my Linksys wrt54g router already in place. Any suggestions on hardware to do this? And possible 3rd party software to use?

No problems at all running the 360 wireless adapter and a Buffalo router with dd-wrt.

Looks like v23 sp2 micro is what I want. Now I've just got to make sure I do it right so I don't kill it.

Is that your only router? You need two routers if you want to use one as a wireless bridge.

It's my only router for now, I plan on getting another one. Probably just grab another wrt54g if I can successfully get dd-wrt on this one.

So bottom line don't worry abut any major performance or lag hit? I guess I can keep an eye open for any deals with the 360 adapter or just grab another Linksys WRT54G since it's been a solid performer.
