How come a 40 gig PS3 already has 6 gig used out of the box?

The PS3 puts aside about 6GB for their OS, so its normal. I wondered the same thing when i first bought mine then asked someone.
You can always upgrade the hard drive, i upgraded my 60GB to 160GB, was thinking of putting a 320GB when PSN offers downloadable movies.
