If it's the OS, that makes it even less efficient than Winblows.

How much of the 40 GBs do you actually get? Do these companies still round up? For example, my 30 GB iPod only has about 27 GB of total space on it...

37GB. there's 31 free. They don't round up. The asshole manufacturers count 1000MB as a GB, whereas windows and other operating systems count 1GB as 1024MB (metric vs binary?). You'd think they'd get with the fuckin program by now. I suppose it's like hot dogs; 10 in the pack, but buns only come 8 in a pack. It makes no sense, but it never changes.

The PS3 puts aside about 6GB for their OS, so its normal. I wondered the same thing when i first bought mine then asked someone.

You can always upgrade the hard drive, i upgraded my 60GB to 160GB, was thinking of putting a 320GB when PSN offers downloadable movies.

Speaking of changing out the HDD, I remember hearing you can somehow image the drive so you don't lose any of your data when swapping to a larger HDD. Anyone hear how to do this? I'm considering upping my 60gb to something else as well.

When you upgrade your hard drive, it formats itself when detecting it, i think the only things you lose is the game saves, which you can back up using USB pen drive, and i think your photos and music. I am not sure about demos if you lose them or not, but don't think you do since they're linked to your account. All your other settings stay the same.
