Best way to get rid of old games?
I have a lot of old PS2 games (as well as PS1 games), and I've finally realized that I'm never going to play any of them again. What is the best (most economically savvy ;)) way to get rid of them?
Trade in at a game store? Sell on ebay? Trade here or at other boards? I'm sure it's game dependent, but generally speaking...what would you recommend? Also, how about the systems themselves...obviously the PS1 has very little value, but how would you recommend getting rid of it and a PS2? Thanks. |
If you have a non-chain game store near you that does trade-ins, they usually offer crunk credit to compete with the monopolistic GameStop. It's also easy as hell and you can have a credit stored to fend off future purchases for a while depending on how much you trade in. Monetarily, eBay is probably your best bet, but it's pretty time consuming and annoying, in my opinion.

What PS1 games do you have?
|
I usually sell them on half.com.

You can always donate to Goodwill (but they won't take console).

I like amazon marketplace myself, I do search beforehand just to see if it will be worth it... many times I actually make money on my used games (since I buy cheaply) or at worst break even

Half.com is a good idea if you want your stuff sitting around for years waiting to be sold. I've had a bunch of DVD's, VHS tapes, books, video games sitting on there for over a year. I might sell one a month.

Some old games (mostly obscure JRPGs) can be worth quite a bit of cash. I have seen some of them fetch $100+ used and $200+ new and unopened on ebay.

Yep. You have to stay on top of your inventory if you want it to sell. It only takes pennies off to get that sale. For example, If the top 5 items are listed at $14.50-$17. Price between. If you want it to move, mark it $14.49. It is really easy to move stuff if you price things accordingly. You have to ask yourself, "is it worth that extra $1-$2 markup to risk not selling it at all?" Mark it below everyone else and it will sell every time. Also, offer free first class shipping upgrade. It is only a tiny bit more than media and also improves your chances of selling.
Aktick, list what you have here first. I just picked up my first Playstation a couple weeks back and would love to get some cheap games...or you can just email me a list. :D Not to mention there are no listing fees here. Doesn't hurt to try. Give it a couple weeks, anything you can't get rid of here, donate or trade in. Be warned, if you trade in the value receive, especially on older titles will make you feel like you are donating them anyway. |
Half definitely isn't as fast as it used to be, but I still get sales regularly. The problem with Half is that prices there are now are now much higher than where auctions on eBay end up, so you don't get much business from people who are comfortable bidding on auctions. It is great for sellers when you actually sell something, but it can take a while to sell the really old items.

I'll list them here instead of the Exchange forum, since I don't know what kind of prices I should ask...

I eBayed all my games what didn't sell I sold to wherehouse.com.
|
I like wherehouse.com. Sometimes the trade in price is pretty close to the ebay value, and thus I go with wherehouse. They started sending checks and doing paypal payments now too instead of just credit.

Sports games are nearly impossible to get rid of. -Just wanted to add that.

Eat them.

try selling to friends, you get more that way than at a used store like ebgames.
ebay is also a good idea |
Fire works pretty well.
;) I usually use Half.com and Amazon Marketplace, depending on which one has the highest competing price for the item I'm selling. I sometimes trade stuff in at GameCrazy if the amount of money I'd get for them is too low to deal with the hassle of selling them online. GameCrazy has decent trade-in prices compared to EB/GameStop, at least in my experience. |
Goozex is also a good option if you are looking to trade. I have had a number of good experiences there. There are a lot of "cheap" games you can get there. I would also check out the cheapassgamer trade forum as it has a lot more action than the trade forum here.
Also, you have a PM. |
