Geometry Wars: Waves (Xbox 360)

   WILL ONLY BE AVAILBE ON PROJECT GOTHAM RACING 4!

Speaking to Pro-G at the Leipzig Games Convention, Bizarre Creations has revealed that a new Geometry Wars game will be featured in October's Project Gotham Racing 4. Dubbed "Geometry Wars: Waves," the shape shooter will be an exclusive Project Gotham bonus and unlike Retro Evolved, won't be sold on Xbox Live Arcade. That makes for an excellent bonus for racing fans, but a $60 investment for those just hoping to exact revenge on the sneaky green square.

Not to worry though, as Bizarre also stated that Waves is based on Retro Evolved and not a "true" sequel as such. Alternatively, you can be sucked in by the gravity wells of Geometry Wars: Galaxies, out this Fall on DS and Wii.

Wonder if this has anything to do with PGR4 recently getting delayed...

slop101 08-24-07 09:34 AM

I was on the fence about PGR4, and while this doesn't get me off the fence, it does give me a nudge - the reviews for the game have to be astounding, because as far as racing games go, I only have eyes for Burnout.

I only have eyes for Ridge Racer (and Outrun) but yeah, I'm an idiot, because this has made me interested in giving PGR another chance. I'm definitely not a big fan of the simulation style racing games though.. and I know PGR is kind of half and half, but I haven't played it since the second game.

it's a sad day when the mini-game included with a $60 game is far more appealing...

Chris_D 08-24-07 10:09 AM

The $50 one on the Wii is still $10 cheaper.

GW: Galaxies for Wii is $40.

slop101 08-24-07 10:36 AM

Has there been any conformation as to hot GW will control on the Wii, becasue outside of the VC controller, I just don't see it.

I think there are various methods, I know one of them involves using the nunchuck to control the ship and remote is used to point in the direction you want to fire which sounds like it could work fairly well. Also, I believe the main game is being designed to accommodate any control differences and to flesh out a single player experience.. but an updated version of Retro Evolved is also included for those wanting the hardcore experience.

Ah, I guess $50 was the assumed price previous to announcement.

Whenever I tried PGR it didn't feel right to me. Burnout pretty much ruined all other racing games for me.

They would be silly not to release this on XBL in some form or fashion. I can't believe they would turn money down like that. Maybe it will just come out after the game has had a chance to sell?

PixyJunket 08-27-07 07:58 AM

Just think of it as paying for Geometry Wars and getting some racing game as an easter egg.

...or think of it as an XBLA game that costs 4800 points.

Heh.

Yeah, that new enemy looks like a blast to play. Where is the crazy background though?

PixyJunket 10-02-07 10:26 AM

This is released (shipped?) today. I added it to my GameFly queue for my free trial so hopefully I can get my hands on it this week. I suppose I'd be up for a few online matches in the racing game that's included as an Easter Egg if anybody is interested.

Giantrobo 10-02-07 10:56 AM

It looks like the same game to me.

It's worse - no extra lives and no power-ups. What's the point?

slop101 10-02-07 09:40 PM

So I just got PGR4, and, um, there's no Geometry Wars in there. Even if it's something you have to unlock, there's a list of unlockables that you buy with "kudos", and it's not there. So what the fuck?

Perhaps it's in a garage that you don't get access to for a little while into the game?

slop101 10-02-07 10:13 PM

Ah, yes - it's in the garage, which you get access to right away in career mode - I just didn't think to look there. I guess that's how PGR3 did it, but I never had that game.

Anyways, I played Waves for a little bit, which is all you can really play for as you only ever have ONE life, once you're dead, game over. And no power-ups means you'll die sooner than later. I felt I did really good going for 60 seconds...

Oh, and the racing stuff is fun and looks nice :D

PixyJunket 10-08-07 07:58 AM

Yeah, so Waves is awesome, it's better than Evolved in my opinion. I've got 3.85 million in Extreme mode, ranked 15th worldwide. I really hope Bizarre reconsiders putting this on Live, if they don't feel it's a full enough game they should charge 200 points for it or just give it away to anybody that's already bought Retro Evolved.
