Fire Sale! PS3 - $499 while supplies last
|
Best Blu-ray movie player on the market. If you are even considering HD movies buy a PS3 when the price drops.
|
While this is nice, will it really wow those who thought $500 for the 20GB model was too much?
|
With the price drop I will be getting a PS3 for Blu-ray alone.
Games are an added bonus :-) |
Props to Speedy as the "poster on the DVD Talk Forums" for finding this out for us.

is this for the 60gb system or the 20gb? If this is true, I hope it holds up, I might finally buy one by the end of this year, and maybe they will actually sell now instead of sitting on store shelves collecting dust.
|
Im just going to stop buying anything altogether...

It's just the price you pay for being an early adopter of any new technology. Wait long enough and you can get a $50 HD-DVD or Blu-ray player at Wal-mart. |
I'm still gonna wait. There are not enough (any?) games I really want to play on it yet.
As for the 5 free blu-ray discs, that is nice, but looking at the list, they are all titles I don't want, too. They should just give a voucher for $100 toward the purchase of any blu-ray discs of your choice. |
While a 100 dollar price drop is enticing... I'm gonna wait and see if there any games worth getting that I can't get on my 360 or PC.
|
Yeah, I'm going to wait and see next gen too... of course, that's what I said about this gen.
I can't remember a console dropping it's price this soon, or at the very least before it had at least a couple of killer apps. Up to this point, the only PS3 games I own are one that was bundled with the system (Genji), one that was dirt cheap used (VF5), one that I imported (Gundam Musou) and one that I got on the PS3 just to have a game on the PS3 (Darkness). I do love the Bluray player, though. |
Here's the confirmation by GameDaily: http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=16721
The price cut takes effect July 12th - the day after Sony's E3 press conference. |
Unless some awesome must have(for me) game pops up I'm still not interested.
|
GTA4 and Gran Turismo might get me to buy this system... but having just purchased a Wii, and getting ready for my wedding, and buying a house... I think it will still have to wait for a while...
|
Still going to wait too. I knew a price drop would be announced soon but I just can't justify $500. Sales have been poor and they are just collecting dust on the store shelves unlike the first 4-5 months after the PS3 was released.

I want to want a 360, but the price is a bit much. The new warranty helps too. Plus the games I want to play (Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata) are finally coming. |
I wonder what this will do to those economies of scale for Blu-Ray Sony was betting the PS3 would provide?
|
I'm SOOOOO glad I waited. I need the WiFi, but didn't want to pony up the extra money for it. Great news.
