Lost Planet difficulty

so how hard is this game?
My friend played it on normal and he told me the boss fights are very hard and recommended that I play it on easy.
I only played a few mins so far and trying to decide whether to play it on easy or normal.

As a frame of reference, I found DeadRising to be hard, but not frustratingly hard. Played Gears on casual and found it just about my level except for the final boss fight (probably took me about 100 tries and many hours to kill him). GRAW2 I found fairly easy. GRAW1 i found frustratingly hard on some of the missions.

KurrptSenate 06-29-07 10:02 AM

nah, your friend must stink at video games

I beat this game on normal in 2 sittings

Draven 06-29-07 10:08 AM

I just beat it myself on Normal. Took me longer than two sittings, and I definitely died more than a few times on the bosses but once you figure them out they aren't that bad.

KurrptSenate 06-29-07 10:10 AM

thats really what it comes down to. there's certain animations for each boss that you just have to learn to exploit

Michael Corvin 06-29-07 10:12 AM

I think there are achievements for each level of difficulty, so if you want everything you have to play through each.

I still need to finish it.

JasonF 06-29-07 10:23 AM

EVery now and then I fire up Lost Planet, get killed a few times by that space hornet at the end of level 4, and put the game back on the shelf. But I stink at video games (FPS video games, anyway). :)

Michael T Hudson 06-29-07 10:35 AM

I gave up on the game. The bosses were kicking my ass.

KurrptSenate 06-29-07 10:37 AM

I'll retract my previous statement then

I honestly didn't know people had that many problems with the bosses. I thought the HUGE green guy was semi-hard at first, but I don't think any others really stuck out to me

Draven 06-29-07 10:47 AM

The robo-tank boss was the worst for me. And the tentacle one was hard too, but I honestly had no idea what to do for that one and had to look it up on Gamefaqs.

As a general rule, you almost always fight the bosses in the VS suits, and they usually give you another suit or two (or more!) in the same room. Plus, I managed to finally beat that tank boss after he had destroyed two suits. It was actually easier on foot and I had almost no health. I am not the greatest gamer in the world and I beat most of the bosses the first time I got to them.

Some of them I did have to walk away from but I usually came back and beat them on the first try the next time.

I've only made it through 4 levels so far but I find the bosses easier without the suits.

msdmoney 06-29-07 11:08 AM

I just beat it, and for the most part the game was too easy. There were a couple difficult boss fights, but nothing that couldn't be done after adjusting your strategy a little bit. I would use your VS suits for most of the fights, they are much better at dodging in general.

The only bosses I really had trouble with were the tank/spider boss and the final boss. But they weren't impossible.

For most of the bosses I had enough stored thermal energy to get hit a ton of times and not die.

Early on, I'd agree. But you start getting some interesting suits and weapons later. Unlimited ammo-type things. Very useful.

timewaster 06-29-07 03:55 PM

so are there tricks/weaknesses to the bosses that will make the fight much easier? or does the game rely alot on skill?

Liver&Onions 06-29-07 03:56 PM

shoot the weak spots. (basically where they glow)

Basically pattern recognition and shooting the glowing parts. But occasionally it seems they just kinda go crazy on you. The aforementioned robo-spider-tank, for example. I never did figure out his pattern.

While dodging whatever it is the bosses are firing at you, as both you and the boss move around the battlefield. That's the hard part. :)

timewaster 07-02-07 01:05 PM

so is there a way to save in the middle of a mission?
when I turn off my xbox, it doesn't save to the last restart point and I have to play the mission from the beginning?

Draven 07-02-07 02:48 PM

...That doesn't sound right. I'm pretty sure you can save it before you turn it off and you'll start at the nearest checkpoint.

I can't say for 100% but I doubt I beat the game starting every new play session from the beginning of the level and didn't notice.

prayformojo 07-02-07 03:55 PM

Forget the campaign and come join in some multiplayer goodness.

I've been trying to get dvdtalkers to do this for months now but most seem to hate LP and/or they're addicted to GOW, COD2, and HALO 2. -ohbfrank- It figures, I suck at GOW, COD 2, and Halo 2 but LP is the one game I can actually do well playing and it's the one game they don't want to play.

JasonF 07-02-07 06:15 PM

Aren't Mondays official Lost Planet night on the DVDTalk XBox Live rotation? I'll try to remember to pop the game in tonight but I make no promises. :)

< LP Early Adopter

It may in the rotation now, but it wasn't when I had my 360. Everytime I would mention LP people would laugh at me. :(

im_ryandick 07-02-07 08:45 PM

the worm was REALLY difficult until i realized it's going to respawn constantly.
you just have a minute in between before the next one pops up.
it took me months to realize when its down, its a new worm, and you're good to go.

Lastblade 07-03-07 09:23 AM

I just borrowed this from my buddy and I died on level 2. It doesn't seem too hard but it is still early. I just hate how slow you move/aim.

KurrptSenate 07-03-07 09:25 AM

if you hit the RB or LB button, your view spins 90 degrees right away :/

Lastblade 07-03-07 09:45 AM

That helps for sure but the aiming reticule is still very slow. I haven't touch the option menu so maybe I can up the sensitivity.

KurrptSenate 07-03-07 09:48 AM

if you get use to the LB/RB buttons, there's really no need for it. A double tap will have him spin a full 180 degrees in less than a second

Draven 07-03-07 10:34 AM

I never had aiming issues while playing the game. It was just a straight run-and-gun to the end.

I didn't see my first token (or whatever they are) you shoot during the levels for achievments until I was halfway through the game.

timewaster 07-05-07 10:42 AM

wow.this is a very tough game.
I had to switch to easy mode.
I've played GOW,R6LV,GRAW1,GRAWII,deadrising.
This is by far the hardest game I've ever played.
The bosses have like a billion hps and take forever to take down.

Draven 07-05-07 11:33 AM

???

This completely blows my mind. I played on the "Normal" setting and beat the game in a few evenings of play. And though I've played since the 2600, I'm by no means an expert at games.

The game only got tricky toward the end. I ran around the first few levels with 7000-9999 health most of the time.

Lastblade 07-05-07 12:02 PM

Draven, do not deny your pro-gamer mad skillz. :D

Oh all right, you've got me there. :)

Seriously, as anyone who has played Halo with me can attest, I am middle-of-the-road at best.

There are 3 different Aiming/Reticle Settings each with a 1-8 speed level.

Accelerate: the further you press the right stick the faster the reticle moves

Fixed: Reticle stays in the center of screen and does not move around

Cruise: aiming speed is constant regardless of how you press the right stick

You have to try the settings and see what works for you. IIRC, I liked "Fixed" with a fastest Speed "8".

OK, i need to sound off again. The boss fights in this game is ridiculously hard and I am playing it on easy. I'm stuck on the boss of mission 9, the spider thing. I can take out one leg, but once I take out 1 leg, i cannot take out the 2nd because the damn thing moves so fast and because of all the movements, i can't keep track of which leg i've been hitting. Any hints on this bastard?

BTW, what does aiming assist on/off do? I tried both on and off and don't see any difference.

Gizmo 07-14-07 10:04 PM

Not only did I beat the game in a few evenings, I got all the 'marker' achievements in each level. Easy game. XBL play is awesome!

I'm doing this from memory, but he has (at least) four legs, right? You only need to take out two of them, and any two will do. So concentrate all of your fire on one and then immediately switch to the next leg you see and do the same. When he flops down, hover up above him and lay down the fire into his body.

I think I ended up going through a couple of V-Suits in that fight. I didn't really worry about the little dudes he spits out and if you get caught in the web you can easily shoot your way out of it.

I still haven't found them all. :( I've replayed levels with new skills I learned in online play and I just get to into it to look for the coins.

XBL play is awesome!
I'm glad someone noticed. :D
