Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved now on Steam for XP!

$2.50 until Friday, $3.95 from then on.

So, after being dicked around with a Vista-only version.. I *finally* get to play this game! I installed Steam and made a hasty purchase. All I can say is that it's probably a good thing I never saw an Xbox 360 demo kiosk with this game running, it would have REALLY tempted me. This game is freaking awesome, maybe too awesome.

Welcome to November 2005. ;)

PixyJunket 06-20-07 08:30 AM

Yeah,, but at least I only had to pay $2.50 (no tax) as opposed to $405 (plus tax).

Ummm... link?

I have no idea what this is.

How are you playing it on the PC? Because I think without dual sticks and a fairly large screen (over 32"), it'd be kinda worthless.

PixyJunket 06-20-07 10:00 AM

I've got dual analogs and screen size doesn't seem to matter one single bit.

Linky

there is also a vista version of this game out?

yeah this game is great on xbox live, but what makes it shine is the competition for top scores on the live leaderboards.

For some reason, I play GW much better (and it's far more fun and intense) when the screen takes up most of my field of vision..

Dual sticks easy with all the adapters, pads out there.

Hooked up my HTPC to HDTV and Geometry Wars look identical to the 360. Almost broke a million in the PC version.

Sitting at a computer desk, the monitor does (or can) take up your entire field of vision.

So I just made this purchase... but I noticed (right after I clicked "Next" without a "back" option on the following screen) that it said something about a subscription... Is Steam going to charge me $3.95 per month for this game? Or is it mine for life?

Yours for life.

Oh, what a month can change.

Sweet, thanks.

On first play I can see where a controller would be beneficial over the mouse/keyboard. I got 30k points on my 2nd time through. I liked the circles that when you shoot them they start to suck everything in.

This seems like a really cool, fast paced, exciting game... and for its simplicity, the graphics are quite stunning. (XP Version) That being said, I agree with others when I say that I don't know if I would pay $50 for it on the Wii, at this point.

-Oh, can the Steam program and games be transferred to other computers if I happen to get rid of this one?

Well, I don't have a 360 still so I'm glad I got to enjoy this one on Steam for under $5.

Once you buy it you can just download it again or I believe there is a way to make a backup of the content on your computer as well. I know you can backup a hard copy Half Life 2 from stream.

Your steam stuff is not lost if your computer crashes. I lost my HDD and simply reinstalled Steam. Signed into my account and redownloaded my games.

I've played my Steam games across multiple computers without issue.

Ok, so I've been playing this a bit and I really like it... but I was wondering if there is any discussion anywhere on strategy, specifically with mouse/keyboard control... I would like to get a dual-joystick setup going, but I don't have much xtra cash right now, so is there something that would work? or do I need to save my money for something good? (Also, reccommend me something good ;))

I've noticed that it isn't the same every time as far as which shapes come when, etc... Sometimes I get the red circles that suck everything in and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I get a wave of blue diamonds first, sometimes a wave of the green squares that run away when you shoot at them. I can never get very far once the snake things start to show up.
