Xbox 360 Question

Ok, I already have the premium system but am thinking about buying the core system too (this one is for the fam). My question is, is the core system able to connect online? If not, what will I have to buy?

Thanks!

Michael Corvin 06-15-07 08:11 AM

It can do everything, including online, the Premium can do except:

- save games: You have to buy a memory card or the hard drive
- HD: comes with standard def cables

Also, it can't play Xbox games.

When considering the cost of the system, don't forget to add in the cost of the Memory Unit, which is required to save games, access xbox live, etc;

It can't out of the box, you'd need to get a hard drive.

RichC2 06-15-07 09:52 AM

I figured that would be obvious... Thats what I get for editing.

GearsWar666 06-15-07 10:15 AM

ok, so pretty much it can get online...but you need the hard drive to access it? haha

I'm prolly just gonna trade in my Wii and two games, etc... this weekend to gamestop towards the system.

You need hard drive (maybe memory) to access Live.

Just to clarify, the actual hardware you get when you buy a core is the same hardware you get when you buy the premium, with the exception of 1) no hard drive, and 2) different cables?

I want to make sure because my 360 died and I sent it off to Circuit City for replacement, but I just found out that apparently, Circuit City doesn't send you back an actual 360 -- they send a gift card. Since I didn't send my hard drive or my cables, when I get the gift card, can't I just buy a core and use the hard drive and cables I hung onto?

well, you also get a wired controller instead of the wireless

and no headset

U also can get herpes, but it depends.

If you still have the cable/hard drive, then it will still work on any 360 you buy.

No, you can get online with out the hard drive, you just wont' be able to get big demos, or anything else too big to fit on the memory card (which you have to buy separately).

Basically, the core is really just for people who want to buy and play games, and even then its not a great buy as by the time you buy the memory card you're only saving $60 or so. Even less if it's being hooked up to an HDTV as you have to buy the HD cables seperately.

The thing is commonly referred to as the Tard pack for a reason.

Totally. As long as CC doesn't ask for those back.

You'll have to get a new warranty for the new one though, as that replacement finished your CC warranty.

I'd go with the $50 Microsoft warranty personally since it's for unlimited replacements for the 3 years.

Actually, Josh, if I'm not mistaken you CAN'T get online unless you have a mem card or HD. You need to store your live account somewhere even if it is a silver account.

Yep, you do need the Mem Card. I just wasn't clear on that as of course anyone buying a 360 need a mem card or HD or you can't save any games etc. :D

They did, but I wasn't about to send them my hard drive. And once I made the decision not to send them my hard drive, it made it easier to decide not to pull the TV off the wall to unhook the AV cables. And once I made that decision, it made it easier to decide not to move the bookcase so I could get at the outlet and unplog the power supply.

Anyway, the advice I saw on the internet was to ignore CC's instructions to return all acessories and to just send the XBox itself, so that's what I did. I'll find out next week if CC is going to hassle me about it.

Screw that. I paid for a 2 year warranty. They can either transfer over the remaining 20 months on the warranty, or they can refund my money. I can't wait to have that fight with the store manager when I buy the new XBox.

Yeah -- I only bought the CC warranty because I thought I'd be able to walk into the store with my broken 360 and walk back out with a new one. Now that I know I have to mail it off to CC Central, what's the point? I might as well get a Microsoft warranty.

Good luck with that, because it won't happen. They send you a gift card (or replace the item in question) and they have fulfilled their contract with you, end of story. When I used their warranty for my PSP I also thought they'd transfer the remaining time on the warranty...nope.

Josh H 06-18-07 02:40 PM

Yep, most store warranties are for 2 years (or whatever time) or the life of whatever product you bought from them.

If they replace the product, the product is dead and their obligation is fulfilled.

As such, most store warranties are garbage, and you're much better off buying one from the manufacturer of your console, TV etc. if they offer one as they are almost always for 2-3 years period. Regardless of replacements.
