God of War 2 (ps2) problems

I bought a copy and my ps2 didn't even read it. i then exchanged it for another copy, same problem. i've never had this problem with any other game. anyone else have this problem? any solutions to it?

god of war 2 = dual layer dvd, most games are not...
old ps2 = not reading dual layer anymore due to being old?
