Hey Gang
I'm on the fence about getting this game since the price has fallen to $30. But after reading reviews and input there's a mixed feeling of both great and that not that good. Probably the one beef I see the most is not enough variation and too repetive in levels. Since I'm looking for another "single" play game this may fit the bill. But I'm also considering COD3, Medal of Honor Airborne and Blacksite 51 all in that price range. They all have close to the same review rating as well in that 7.0 to 8.0 range. Kenny J - B4EvrYng |
AC is a lot, really, a lot better than those 3.
|
I agree. AC is much better than the three games you listed. Now, COD4 would be another story all together.
|
I put AC right up there with Bioshock, Halo 3, Oblivion, and even (gasp) COD4. I had just as much fun playing it as all of the others I listed.
|
Went ahead and took the plunge today. For $30 I figured "What the Heck"...
Now if I could only get out of work early....? |
I did the same yesterday and yea for $30 this seemed a no brainer and after playing the first level it appears to have been a excellent choice/buy. After glancing at the "instructions" my first thought was this is allot to remember and get down compared to COD4. But the game does let you glide in slowly so to help familar the controls and get use to movement which is just fantastic and very fluid.
It's a vast change from playing COD4 of late, almost reminds me of Metal Gear Solid series but much more wide open. All-in-all a good solid buy and so thanks to those for their input and recommendation. Kenny J - B4EvrYng |
I am starting to wonder if I'll ever get a chance to play this game. It's sitting here, mocking me.
|
For the ones just starting the game, it can get kinda repetitive after chapter 4 or 5 if you just follow the main story. If you take your time and look for different things it'll be more enjoyable.
Also, some people recommend removing the GPS and other on screen help. But I'd wait until chapter 3 or 4 for that. |
Don't forget, Gamestop has their B2G1 deal going through today...grab Assassin's Creed, No More Heroes and RE4 for Wii...each $26.99 (used). Stack with Edge card and get all 3 for under $49...plus tax where it applies
Couple notable price drops: Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii) - $17.99 Beautiful Katamari (360) - $17.99 |

That's one thing I'm hoping for is a bit of extra looking around. What the heck...it's not like I want to hurry and finish the game and find another. One question though, can you redo a level or stage even if you finish it? In other words like in Bioshock you could go back and do things completely different or try new weapons or whatever. K&A- I'm not sure about 'as you go', but once you finish the game you can go back and re-do any level. That's what I did to grab some achievements that I missed, and to do some bigtime flag/Templar searching.
EDIT- Spoiler:
|
Yes, you can go back and replay any previous chapter, any time.

I just started playing this. I think the today world is the mirror's edge world. Ok maybe not. It is kind of interesting how they did movement in AC compared to ME. In AC everything is automated but in ME you have to preform the moves.
Another thing is Altair kind of reminds me of the Apprentice from The Force Unleashed. hmmm maybe they are related. The apprentice did come to earth in Soul Calibur 4. Maybe he left behind a baby. |
I miss playing AC. I wish there was more to do, like DL missions or something. All I have left to do is flag search I believe, which is a bit too much at this time, but I really wish I could get back into it. GREAT GAME.
|
Got it for black friday (used around $6) and its an alright game. Im not ready to dive into the game but I tested it out. Looks great but I dont like the whole future experiment angle.
"It started out as an experiment that went.. a little.. caca" |

Yeah, one of my Top 5 games of 2007.
Is the sequel suppose to be released in 2009? |
Re: The Official ** Assassin's Creed ** Thread
I finally started into this game and Im loving it. BEAUTIFUL graphics and I love walking around, riding, exploring. Im on my way to Damascus for the first time after being demoted in the very begining and having all my skills taken. But I have one complaint...
The fights kind of suck. Im just hitting one button and cant really pull off combos. The Templars are tough and kill me right away after blocking everything. Am I doing something wrong? I know I suppose to tap the button right when our swords connect but I cant get it right, despite having NO problems in the training area. |
Re: The Official ** Assassin's Creed ** Thread
Alright can someone help?
How do I do counters with the hidden blade? When I have it out, I cant block or move and I get slaughtered. If I have my sword out Altair has to put it away before trying a stab. I havent earned the short blade yet so maybe I get the ability later? Any help is appreciated. |
Re: The Official ** Assassin's Creed ** Thread
You'll get alot better at the fights. Templars are tough but will be easier later. I haven't played in months, but I remember feeling like you at the start, and being frustrated with the fighting.
I got to a point where I could take on 15 guards at a time. It's all about the counters. |
Re: The Official ** Assassin's Creed ** Thread
It took me a while to get used to the timing, but once you do you'll be able to take on endless enemies at once. For the combo-counter, (and this sounds weak but it works) I just counted one...two...three (kinda like you were practicing a dance step, lol), hitting the X button on each count. Do it real smooth and fluid and don't rush. Once I got that down it was hard to not do it.
I think I may start this up again. I still need the dialog, all Templars, and some flag achievements (Have 855/1000). I'm playing on a new HD so it may be easier now since none have been found yet (using the map). |
Re: The Official ** Assassin's Creed ** Thread
A buddy of mine got the guide for this game for a penny at Best Buy and let me have it, so I may start playing again to find stuff I missed.

Re: The Official ** Assassin's Creed ** Thread
Ive been getting good with the sword counter, but Ive been reading how the others are tough. Will the game teach me these later? I ask cause I dont know if its best to have the hidden blade out already or if I have to press up on the DPad during the combo; nothing works.
I hear about using the hidden blade during a load screen. But on another load screen it was giving the advice to break someones legs in a certain situation. It cut off during the girl talking so it didnt finish. How do I break someones legs? |
