Wii and new widescreen TV problem
I bought a Sharp Aquos 32" LCD TV today and a pair of component cables (official Nintendo ones) and hooked my Wii up to it.
The picture is so freaking jagged that it's bugging the crap out of me. I have it set to 480p and Widescreen in the Wii menu and on the TV I have it set to Widescreen and the view mode of Stretch (the other settings make it too tall or too wide). Any help that can offered would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |
I'm guessing the game has too be be 480p compatible for it to look right.
WiiSports is jagged, but Super Paper Mario isn't too bad. |
That's how it looks. It's a Wii man. Welcome to <s>HD</s> gaming!
(I have a Wii). |
Gotcha. ;)

This is an issue with fixed pixel displays as well. They really show all the flaws. The PS2 looks really bad on an LCD.

I believe almost all HDTVs on the market thus far are fixed pixel. I don't recall having any issues on my plasma other than it displayed interlaced images horribly. Of course, I didn't have anything HD to base comparisons to, but everything in 480p looked great. My only issue was the softness of the upscaling process, which is something I'm just going to have to accept if/when I get another HDTV.

Any help that can offered would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Odd that you have it set to "stretch". In 480p the picture is already stretched to the 16:9 size |

So you have to tell the display that it's widescreen. Jaggies, well, Nintendo just isn't using much (if any) anti-aliasing. I don't need high-rez, but I'd appreciate some AA. :( |
To quote all the Wii-lovers..."It's not about graphics, it's bringing fun back to gaming"...have fun.

yep, looks crappy on my 40" Bravia LCD as well.

Problem solved.
I took the TV back and bought a standard tube one for 1/2 the price. |
