speakers or headphones?

Do you use headphones for gaming or speakers? What do you use? I use headphones at night and speakers during the day (roomates don't like the sound of the screams of my victims after work hours). For headphones I have this set from OTTO: http://www.hearotto.com/Products_OT6.aspx I like them cuz they're comfy and they sound good. For speakers I have an old pair of JBL 4311B's - studio monitors from the good ol' days.

More or less the same as you. During the day I do 5.1 surround so I can hear fools trying to sneak up on me. At night I have a wireless headset. Apparently, my wife and daughter can't sleep while stuff is blowing up all around them. Go figure.

I usually use speakers for consoles and for most computer games, but online FPS like Counterstrike I always go headphones so I can hear the footsteps in more detail.

I'm lucky enough to live in a house all by myself. So, it's always speakers!

Michael Corvin 04-24-07 03:10 PM

Setup is in the basement(on opposite side of the house where the bedrooms are) so speakers night and day.

Okay, I'm a bit geeky, but if ya can, don't forget to say what kind of headphones and speakers. Partly I'm in the market for new speakers and wanna see what people are using. Happy with my headphones, though, just got them recently, still, say what kind so I can feel better or worse than you. :)

DodgingCars 04-25-07 03:30 PM

TV speakers! And on the handheld, I usually have the sound off.

Diabolita23 05-15-07 10:01 AM

I just played Call of Duty for the first time with headphones. Pretty cool. I had always thought of the more overt sound being what constituted "good sound" in a game, but it was really cool to hear the detail in the background, all the subtle nuances. Oh, in addition I got an e-mail from the company that made my headphones with a coupon for free shipping and 10% off (code: FREESHIP) on two of their products (bluetooth car kit or headset with mp3 player build in).

Speakers. I'm not a big fan of headphones. Pretty much only time I use them is in the gym and when listening to my MP3 player in the office.

I never use headphones. Speakers only.

Trout 05-15-07 04:01 PM

I used to use speakers only, but recently I have tried headphones. I was surprised with the difference.

Mordred 05-15-07 05:15 PM

Speakers through the home theater receiver for console gaming and a smaller but top of the line Logitech 5.1 setup (Z-5500 maybe?) for PC gaming.

What do you use to listen to your music on at the gym? I'm using a Sony discman and a cheap pair of headphones. Was thinking about replacing that with that otto integrated mp3 headset but not sure if I'd be diligent enough to load different songs on there every couple days. I guess it's not that much harder than changing a CD, but I'd have to turn my computer on and if I'm on the way to the gym I don't want to think about work... computer = work. Except here. :)

DJ_Longfellow 05-17-07 10:18 AM

Speakers...6.1 setup. Although, at night I have to turn it down a bit.

A 512MB Creative MuVo mp3 player and some cheap sony ear phones. I believe this model is called the Creative Nano something or rather now as they changed it a while back.

It holds 120-130 songs, so I don't change much. And when I do I just use a free ware program called Random Fill that randomly fills it from the 3500 or so mp3s I have on my PC.

It's a simple drag and drop player to, so some times I drag a few albums on it and listen to those.

That's the same size as the Otto set (and sounds like it works similarly), I didn't realize that 512mb could hold that many songs, I thought it was much smaller for some reason. That could last me a week or two.

Speakers. I just turn the volume down during the late evening gaming sessions or when Martin goes on one of his rants.

boston george 05-20-07 01:15 AM

Speakers usually, but my Grado Labs SR-80 Headphones late at night.

Michael Ballack 05-20-07 05:18 AM

Speakers now. I had to change my sound card and my front headphone port no longer works. I have these THX Dell Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers that kick ass.

Altec Lansing AHS515 headphones.

Sennheiser HD-595 w/ a JVC SU-DH1
It's godly. I can't imagine how people can stay competetive in a FPS using speakers.
