New Proud owner of a Nintendo DS
Alright today's my birthday and my lovely girlfriend gave me a DS. Usually those are reserved by 10 year old birthdays but I'm 27 today, love the DS and proud of it.
I have not purchased a portable since Gameboy Color. So i've been out of the portable scene for a while.
Can somebody help me out with some of these questions:
1.) What all games can the DS play?
2.) How does the Wi-Fi and wireless play work?
3.) Where can you download games? I heard there are download stations.
4.) Game suggestions?

1) As far as I know, all GBA games and of course all DS games.
2) Depends on the game. Generally, for wireless play, if both people have the game, you just go to the setup screen in the game to get everyone started. If not, then one person has to "download" the game from you (and it take a long time), so you can play against each other. For Wi-fi play, you again go to the settings of the game. Some games allow random play (Tetris DS) -- meaning you are randomly matched against someone in the world. Some require you to exchange friend codes (Animal Crossing) as the only way to play against someone else. This means you have to give your friend your Animal Crossing friend code to enter into their friends list and you have to do the same with theirs.
3) I think EB Games has them. I think they are just demos. I've never tried, to be honest.
4) Depends what you like. From what I've played I'd suggest: New Super Mario, Mario Kart, Tetris DS, Brain Age (though it loses it's appeal), Advance Wars, Hotel Dusk (though it's not something you'd want to play again after you beat it).

1.) What all games can the DS play?
Gameboy Advance games and DS games from all regions
2.) How does the Wi-Fi and wireless play work?
You have to have a wireless network set-up or find a hotspot. Once done, use compatible games (Tetris DS, Animal Crossing, among others) and use the wi-fi modes to play online multiplayer. If you don't have or don't want to set up a wireless router, etc. just buy the USB adapter that Nintendo makes and you can have wi-fi set up from that.
3.) Where can you download games? I heard there are download stations.
Any number of game/toy stores. I know for sure that Toys R Us has the stations. All you have to do is bring your DS in the range of the station at the store and you can download game demos using the wireless connectivety of the DS. No set-up is really needed but your DS.
4.) Game suggestions?
Animal Crossing DS is a good life simulator, Tetris DS is really fun, New Super Mario Bros. is exactly the same as the original NES games.

congrats on the DS. its a great system.
What kind of games do you like ?
Some of my favs included Super Mario Bros, Animal Crossing and for some strategy I got Advance Wars which was a fun turn based game.
You may be able to pick up most of those second hand at EB Games as they are quite old now (I haven't bought a game for a while). And as people said you can download demos at EB as well.
For the Demos you can only have one on your machine at any one time and once you reset the machine its wiped from your system (so make sure you have a fully charged battery before you get there ).
Enjoy

Walmart, Toys R Us, and many places (with a DS demo display) have download stations.
Just get with the proximity of the signal and download the demo/trailer.
It will stay on your DS until you power off the DS.

Re: Elite Beat
Me too!
I played the demo when I first got my DS a few months ago, and didn't think much of it. Of course, I had other, brand new games that I was itching to play.
But I'm borrowing a friend's copy this week, and it's just not doing anything for me so far. I'm gonna give it another shot, and see if I can't get hooked on it, like so many others have, but right now, I could take it or leave it. And I've played the hell out of both Guitar Heroes, so it's not like I have an aversion to rhythm games or anything--just haven't been bitten by the Elite Beat bug yet.

I just had little fun with EBA.
