Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

Apparently I'm way behind, everyone's moved on to other stuff.

Anyway - I just got to the area where it opens up for nonlinear gameplay and you can take the Cieth side missions. I think I preferred the linear gameplay....one thing I never liked about FF games was simply wandering around trying to find stuff or where to go. And this first area is huge. Also, apparently I need to do something different, but it seems like the difficulty just shot up - I'm getting stomped within seconds by most of the monsters. Anyone have generic nonspoiler advice for breaking through this wall?

If you don't get too close to the monsters they will ignore you. Just go around them and make your towards the target on your minimap.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

i finally made it to chapter 10 where you have all your chars and can choose who to play.
do i need to develop all the chars or can i just stick with 3 the rest of the way?

I just stuck with my three favorites. Occasionally, the game will still force you to use a particular character combination, but you can always level up "on the fly" in those situations, since all your characters will continue to gain XP.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

well, everybody gains all XP even if not active, so there's no reason to not develop everyone. there are fights you'll want to switch it up. There's no perfect-3 that can do everything.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

everytime i got this game figured out, they throw something new at me to confuse me again. This time i'm on chapter 11 with the cieth waystones. I managed to do the first 5, but now i cannot find the 6th. Is there some trick to finding the stones?

Also, how to you teleport using them? whenever i click on the ones i completed , it says i already completed the mission and asks if i want to do it again.

Not all of the Cieth stones allow for transporting. I think it's the orange ones, but I could be mistaken.

If you don't enjoy the mindless mission hunts, you might as well complete the game. Normally, I enjoy the side missions and boss battles in FF games, but this time around it just irritated the hell out of me.

Also, you can finish the game, and then go back to doing those idiotic hunts.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

I was thinking of going back and finishing this game off for the Platinum Trophy, only about 10 more Cieth stones to do.

Too bad you don't actually fight that huge rock monster. Would've been an epic battle.

don't you need to level up and get more stuff in order to face the final boss?
I am concerned if i don't do them, i will get my ass kicked. The game is pretty hard for me.

You'll level up plenty just from playing through the last 2 chapters. It ends up being much easier to go back after the game to do the hunts (if you still have a desire to play the game).

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

The main reason I never switched up my party was because it resets all your paradigms every time you do so. I wish they had some way to remember which ones you used last time the same party was configured (unless I missed something).

Like FFs of years past, I gave up on this right before the finish because I got to the point where it's a bunch of leveling to finish. I should just go back and finish it, but again, like FFs of years past, I would have to relearn everything...

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

I'll get back into this once I finish Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Though I feel it might be kind of a shock to go from a game that has TONS to do to one where I just push the X button over and over and over...

WHy the "jawdrop"? It looks rather dull, despite the overdose of melodrama.

I'm not sure what's in the video, but Final Fantasy XIII-2 has also been announced. Wonder if it'll be any good...

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

is it XIII-2 or XIII.2? Is it a true sequel to XIII or some sort of revamp?

I never bothered with XIII... so that trailer confuses me.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

It's a true sequel, like X-2. I'm one of the (apparently) few that enjoyed XIII, so I'm definitely interested. Especially if they keep the battle system from XIII.

As for Versus XIII, graphically it looks amazing, and the combat looks interesting -- but until I actually see it on shelves, I'm not going to believe this game actually exists.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

Bumping this one back from the depths. With all the talk about XIII-2, I decided I should go back and finally finish XIII. Could someone who finished it (and remembers) tell me about how long I have left? I'm in chapter 12 and just fought the Proudclad boss. I'm still in the same area and am having to fight a bunch of behemoths and those giant things that were in the open world area. I hope I'm close to the end. Surprisingly, it wasn't very hard to get back into the fighting system after over a year. That's probably because it's mostly a case of just hitting X for auto-battle...

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

I think the giant open area was about 2/3 or 3/4 through. I don't remember the specifics after that though.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

Yeah, that was chapter 11. I'm quite a bit past that. I know the game has 13 chapters; I'm curious as to about how many hours I have left.
