ANy word on games that will use the wiimote gun attachment? Resident Evil?

And any word on a new boxing game (release dates, etc.)? Maybe fight night?

Quack 04-15-07 04:29 PM

Still gotta play Super Paper Mario.....just gotta find time....my 3 day weekend should suffice :)

DodgingCars 04-16-07 12:37 AM

I didn't see anyone here really talk about Capcom day. I thought it was funny that Joystiq really criticized both RE: UC and Project Treasure Island Z, while IGN had the exact opposite response.

IGN basically said that Capcom hit it 3 for 3. They were in love with the new controls for RE4, were impressed with what they saw for Umbrella Chronicles, and seemed to really like Project Treasure Island Z.

I think PTIZ looks really interesting. I'll be keeping my eye out for that one.

Michael Corvin 04-16-07 06:37 AM

Project Treasure Island looks very interesting. I'm going to be watching that one as well.

tonyc3742 04-16-07 06:45 AM

While I like the 'wii diary' feature, I wish there were options--I'd rather see it in spreadsheet form, where I could see time played by game/application/week/month/total instead of just day by day.
I've seen one movie for PTIZ; it definitely looks lighthearted and energetic, but puts me in mind of a PC point and click adventure, which I'm not a big fan of. I'll keep an eye out though.

VC update for 4/16:

Punch Out!!® Featuring Mr. Dream (NES®, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): As young boxer Little Mac, players have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to battle the big guys of the World Video Boxing Association circuit. Take them on one by one, starting with skinny Glass Joe. Battle up through King Hippo and all the way to the WVBA Champion himself. Players use their best jabs, hooks and power uppercuts to knock out opponents, but must pay attention to subtle changes in their body position to dodge jaw-breaking blows. With great graphics, addictive action and a touch of humor, this game will keep players entertained for hours.

Virtua Fighter™ 2 (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): Virtua Fighter was the very first 3-D fighting game in the industry and introduced six unique characters, each with their own martial arts style. In Virtua Fighter 2, the intrepid fighters return to the World Fighting Tournament. Players take to the stage to see who will claim the championship title. Will it be Lau Chan, Kage-Maru, Wolf Hawkfield, Jeffry McWild, Akira Yuki, Jacky Bryant, Sarah Bryant or Pai Chan? The answer lies within. Players immerse themselves in this technically challenging game and see if they have what it takes to be the champion of the second World Fighting Tournament.

Bonk's Revenge (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): The "hardheaded" hero is back for more in the second installment of the Bonk series. Taking place in the Monster Kingdom, Bonk the Caveman makes his way toward King Drool III. Bonk's Revenge is a side-scrolling action game in which players Jump and "Bonk" (head-butt) their enemies while they make their way to the goal at the end of each stage. Double, even triple, attack power by eating the meat that appears in a stage. There are eight different hidden bonus stages, and the Dinosaur Train that appears after players defeat a boss will change depending on how many Smileys they've collected. With new actions such as the Triangle Jump and the ability to climb trees, as well as seven variety-packed stages, Bonk's Revenge will keep players playing over and over.
Now, if there was a game I'd happily pay a 100 point licensing premium for, it would have been Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!. I guess 100 points is enough to cover ninjas and turtles but not rape and crazy. I'll still be getting this Punch Out as soon as I get home, though.

Michael Corvin 04-16-07 09:16 AM

How are the Bonk games? I've always wanted to try them but am not a fan of dropping $6 blindly on them. What do they compare to? Length? Any input?

DodgingCars 04-16-07 09:16 AM

I almost wonder if that's why it's not Mike Tyson's Punch Out. :)

Draven 04-16-07 09:20 AM

Ooooo....VF2. I might actually pick that up (hopefully I'll get a Wii soon) if it plays decent.

And I really don't mind the lack of Mike Tyson in Punch Out - that ship sailed long ago.

They were Hudson/NEC's answer to Mario, essentially. Personally, I'd rank Bonk below Mario but above Sonic. I also think there are better Turbo games on VC at the moment (DRAGON'S CURSE!) but if you're a fan of the old character platform games, they're pretty good.. the second one is MUCH better though.

Man...I'm going to download Punch-Out right now.

Cool. Thanks.

Fixed that for you. The games aren't available until 9am PST.

Supermallet 04-16-07 10:04 AM

No Mike Tyson, no sale.

Oh, whatever. I doubt I could still beat Bald Bull anyway.

the full browser is pretty crappy. no video playback except for youtube and stuff. can't watch porn video on my wii....

slop101 04-16-07 11:07 AM

Was there a Punch Out for the SNES - I think there was, but I can't remember for sure. Anyways, I'd rather get that than the NES version, just because I can't hack 8-bit graphics, but I love the look of almost all SNES games.

 Agreed. I'm just looking forward to getting back to Soda Popinski. I'd be highly surprised if I could ever get to Tyson or Dream anyway.

Is Bald Bull the guy right before Tyson? That's is the last person I could make it to. So no Tyson is no big loss to me. Not that I'll be buying anyway.

I have Punchout unlocked in Animal Crossing so I won't buy that one. Seeing VF2 available really makes me wish for Saturn games on the VC. I would love to get those versions of VF on the WII.

Bald Bull was the midpoint. Super Macho Man was the guy before Tyson/Mr. Dream.

In 1990, towards the end of the NES's run, the game was re-released as Punch-Out!!, with the Tyson character replaced by Mr. Dream. Mr. Dream fought in the same fashion as Tyson, but had cosmetic changes to his face and skin color. Contrary to popular belief Tyson was removed not because of his 1991 rape conviction of Miss Black Teen America, but because of a contract dispute with Nintendo and his title loss to Buster Douglas.

DodgingCars 04-16-07 11:21 AM

Apparently, Mike Tyson was excluded because of a dispute between Tyson and Nintendo from back in the NES days. I guess they had even released Punch Out again late in NES's life without Tyson (according to Wikipedia).

Edit: Pixy beat me to it.

pinata242 04-16-07 11:27 AM

 Oh, you guys. I like to remember it my way. I'm sure if he was asked today, he'd be more than happy to reinstate the contract at $1/download.

pinata242 04-16-07 03:02 PM

Hey, what button on the Wiimote is mapped for the NES Select button? That's the uppercut button in Punch Out, right? Any chance they mapped it to A instead of -?
