dude, that's pretty much it... man, you guys even worse, you guys even remember my older posts. Honestly, i don't remember any of your older posts. Darkside and DogingCars are two user names i remember, but as for their posts? I don't remember any, except maybe the darside dude, his posts expressed pretty much my PS3 experience.

Perhaps i should just stick to coffe breaks next times... you know, the part of me keep on coming back to the video game thread is to keep track of what console is at the top and do i own that console or not. Also, i'm quite lazy finding out video game news, especailly new games (no game mag sub, waste of money). So, this site pretty much keep up my video game info up-to-date.

Ok, now back to the busting topic, i think it should be closed by now, it's obvious... the PS3 will not bust (don't start with the fine definition of bust again :))

I guess i was being selfish? Before i brought my PS3, i was neverous like everyone else, i.e. will i be happy with this investment? Am i gonna regret it quickly? Lastly, is this a smart buy?

Now that i have the PS3 hooked up and everything, my perspective changed. The fact that the slim library of PS3 games don't bother me at all, why? My gaming need is different. I found myself play more PS2 games on the PS3 than the PS3 games (Resistance is collecting dust, not that i don't like it, i don't have times to play it). The PS3 downloads are pretty neat, BR is the most valued feature of course...

Of course i want the PS3 to sell good, but i don't wanna act like a fanboy. What i'm saying is this, if it sells, great, if it doesn't, fine by me, the PS3 speaks itself! Would i buy it for $600 not iincluding tax? Hell no! (i'm talking about the 60 gb model).


Lastly, i don't like to attack on posts like "yeah, it's a great game, but it's not gonna help to sell more consoles."

It's pointless to argue on that one, b/c you don't really know the answer, it's not the time yet. Of course, i would love to save the post and revive it when the real answer arrives :)

I think people can assume with a degree of certainty that Sony's system seller was GTA and that is no longer a factor being multiplatform. I don't think Sony has a Halo or Mario anymore with that loss. They have a bunch of Luigis & Donkey Kongs but not bona fide system seller. It will take a handful of great titles to equal the drawing power of a Halo, Mario or GTA.

It will take a small handful of titles like Ratchet, MGS, FF and the like to get the average consumer to chomp at that $600 tag. But by the time you can look at a retail shelf containing all those titles, we are another year down the road. I still think it will be a rough year for Sony. They dug a giant hole last year, it will be interesting seeing them dig themselves out.

But that is just one man's opinion. :)

Eh... have you seen how many games Josh has been playing (and completing !?), like in the what you been playing thread etc. I admit in the old days he definitely seemed skewed towards a forum posting lifestyle, but these days I bet he plays more than probably 90% of the members here!

Yeah, I have been playing a TON of games the past couple of months. :D

Part of the problem was there just wasn't a whole lot I wanted to play during the middle of last gen, but now with the DS and Wii (when the games start rolling) and nearly every PS2 game at $20 or less I've been having a blast.

Starting to slow down some now though as I'm getting in crunch time getting ready for my final comp exam in my PH D program in June. :(

But should be able to pick back up a ton after then! :D

I've also been working/studying from home a bit more, so that's cut down on my posting a lot. As I said, at work I'm at a computer all day long doing research etc. so its easy to post a lot to take quick breaks etc. I don't get online much at all at home...hate to sit at a computer at home after being at one all day at work. :( That said, it's been a long day so I'm off! :D

Yes, but to be fair, nobody new GTA3 or Halo were going to be system sellers they were last gen. If you had asked me following the PS1 generation I would have said Resident Evil and Final Fantasy were the big names for playstation, and I would have laughed at GTA3 being a system seller based on GTA2.

Any of the upcoming games, like Little Big Planet from Sony, or Bioshock for Microsoft could be this generations GTA3 or Halo. I would say the closest is probably Gears, but I don't think that had the impact of Halo or GTA3. The system seller from Sony is going to have to blow people away, because $600 is a lot of money.

Sony's biggest problem is they are losing third party exclusives like VF5 and DMC4, so it will be much harder to get the system seller exclusive from a third party. I think this trend will continue. Third parties aren't going to stay with Sony just because they are Sony and they were exclusive to Sony last gen, the installed base has to be there.

I don't think the PS3 is a bust, dissapointment for Sony, but not a bust.
It may have helped them win the HD movie wars though.

Too early to tell, really. At this point I only have my Wii and my gaming PC. Halo3 will probably push into the 360 camp at some point. But the PS3, so far, does not interest me at all. Not because of the price, but mostly because of the lack of interesting (to me) titles.

I only know 2 people who have PS3's and both bought them for Blu-Ray DVD. One person picked up Motostorm, the other Resistance and nothing else. I am actually surprised that my cousin (PS3 w/ Resistance) has not picked up more games as he is an avid gamer (Wii, 360, Xbox, PS2, PC).

Well.. the Xbox 360 is still doing rather abysmal in Japan, despite Microsoft's repeated and hammered insistence that they'd be grabbing more games for a Japanese market, that list totals in at ONE over a year since its launch (golf clap). Based on that, I still fully expect the major RPG and adventure games to remain on the systems that are selling there. Sony would be smart to push that eventual wider spectrum of games over here instead of trying to focus on the VERY narrow market the Xbox 360 has already done so well in grabbing as they are currently. Just my opinion on it.

I would wonder if MS could learn anything from Apple as an american company trying to sell in Japan. At least, Apples products do quite well over here. Still at this point in time, I don't think there's anything MS could realistically do to change their fate. Even if they bought all the big Japanese names, the talent would just leave and form new studios, and the Japanese fans would follow. I mean, the on the shelf Japanese 360 titles, right now, still piss on what the PS3 is offering in Japan, but most Japanese gamers are content to remain in last gen for the time being anyway (or new gen wii), as the ps3 sales figures show.

Gears is a big seller. My wife split a 360 with me for Valentine's day. I picked up Gears, she wanted to play Viva Pinata. I really just wanted to play Dead Rising and was mildly interested in Gears (weird because I tune out most FPS game releases completely). I wasn't that impressed with Gears as a single player game, but I get easily bored with FPS games in single player.

I never liked FPS games on analog sticks (and yes that includes Halo 2, which I have and thought was OK at best). But I've been cracking out on playing Gears online. I've played nothing else for weeks beyond a bit of Dead Rising and some Wii VC games/ XBLA games.

So for me, it's the first and only FPS type game I've enjoyed on a console. So I'm a bit biased. But I think it's a big seller and definitely a new franchise. Even if it's really just another FPS. :D

For me, when there are enough Sony exclusives that I want (Ratchet, God Of War, Final Fantasy XII, Kingdom Hearts 3? -pray- ), I'll pick one up then. It does suprise me, though that there are several gameplay features on the 360 (things like custom soundtracks and the ability to stream music with slideshows as well as the cross-game communication available through Live) that weren't implemented into the PS3. None is a deal breaker for me, though.

But it has further lessened my interest in FPS games. The third person perspective is just better IMO, so much easier to hide, dodge etc when you can see your character.

I'm much better at playing these 3rd person games on a console. Gears is a game I would want over Halo on a console.

I've been a fan of 3rd person over 1st since the first Max Payne came out. I still love certain FPS games, but yeah, 3rd person seems to allow for a lot more interaction.

Jet Force Gemini was the first Third Person Shooter that left an impression on me.

I think the solution found in R6 Vegas works very well; pulling from first to third person when hiding behind cover. For aiming, first person is a lot easier than third, though admittedly Gears does it as well as any third persoin shooter and the "running" effect with the moving camera in chase is truly spectacular.

Chronicles of Riddick was spectacular switching between perspectives.

See? That's Sony's problem - as I said in my earlier post, the Playstation brand became popular when it became affordable. Postioning itself as the "Mercedes" of consoles goes against everything that helped them succeed in the first place. And since less people can afford it now, they have exclusives jumping ship.
