Component Cables for X-BOX? (Not 360)
 

The only place I can seem to find this is on EBAY!

I am getting a new HD TV, and would like to use Component Cables for the X-Box (since I thought it was an option).

1. Do they sell these at Bestbuy? Or perhaps the X-Box 360 Component cables can be used with the regular X-Box as well?

2. Do they make a good difference, and can most X-Box games be watched in widescreen/16x9 if I use them?

I picked them up dirt cheap used at EB. I think I payed five or six bucks for them.

Yes, they make a difference. The Xbox makes really good use of 480p and even had a handful of games that could run at 720p.

Does 480p automatically = widescreen?

Not always. For example, Soul Calibur II is 720p but fullscreen only.

XBOX.COM lists "Justice League Heros" as "HDTV 720p"


Does the "HDTV" signify it's in Widescreen? And will I notice a big improvement in graphics in 720p as opposed to the composite cables on my 27" tube TV?

Set your television as 16x9 in the options menu on your Xbox and you can play games that support that aspect ratio immediately, with or without the component cables.

No. That is separate. As mentioned above, you simply set your Xbox to widescreen and it will display the games that way even on a standard def TV.

Yes, you will see a difference on the 720p games. There is quite a difference between 480i and 720p.

And if the game does not support 16x9 on the widescreen TV, it won't "stretch" it will it? I hate the stretched video picture look. I assume (hope) it will just put the black bars on the SIDES of the screen for games that are no enhanced for 16x9/widescreen

If I remember correctly, I think it will stretch non high-def games. Using my example above, I know for sure SCII will have black bars on the sides. A 480i/480p game will be stretched. It doesn't look nearly as bad as stretched TV though.

I don't think it stretches everything. As I recall, unless the game is flagged as widescreen you'll get the bars on the side. I know some games will actually have both (16:9 for the gameplay but 4:3 for the pre-rendered cutscenes).

That's what I'm thinking as well. Doesn't the option to stretch an image originate from the TV settings itself?

I know halo was always stretched on my TV. I think it depends on the setting on the xbox itself. Of course you can set any widescreen TV to stretch 4:3 material.

I actually ended up with one of those RCA tvs with a special "vport" connection for the xbox. I think it was just a component connection merged into one jack. Nice though because it freed up the component cables for something else.

monster cable one is nice but it is close to $50. its what i got to replace my microsoft one that died, but my xbox died a couple months later go figure. just some fyi if you're looking for couple cables and don't want to ebay.

Sominex, I have a set that I don't need. Official MS component cables. I think it was called the advanced A/V pack. Sold my Xbox to someone who didn't need them.

I won't have the TV for another 3 weeks, so I won't be able to test them out till then. Thanks so much for the offer though! I'll let you know how it looks when I get it hooked up
