I'm in the middle. I'm a Nintendo fan that would love to have a more robust online experience. It's just the games that are currently on the 360 don't appeal to me beyond XBLA.

As for total number of gamers, you are probably right due in part to the large number of people who just play Popcap sorts of games. My mom has never played an online game in her life but has spent hours playing Peggle and Bookworm.

Xbox Live attach rate is 60%, and that's counting anybody that simply plugs their console into an ethernet port and does nothing else. Of that 60% I'm willing to bet that the majority of that is still Live Silver and aren't playing games online (the latest reports I've seen don't give those numbers). Then you don't even mention the PS2, which still way eclipses Xbox and Nintendo numbers and almost all games are being bought for single player experiences. Of course, then there's still GBA, DS, PSP, etc., etc.

Same here.

Agreed - but if you look at the titles that are the big sellers on the 360 you see racers (with heavy online play) and FPS. That is what appears to be driving the sales.

You are also correct on the PS2 front - i just didn't feel knowledgeable enough to make much of a claim in that area (i have never owned one) but from what i have seen the RPGs like FF and Kingdom Hearts and the other single player experiences like GTA seem to be driving that platform. I think gamers who are really drawn to online play probably have either stuck with the PC and the utility of that area or purchased an Xbox of some sort since they appear to cater to that audience.

Yeah, the insides are vastly different. But the outsides are very similar. Big fan, seawall with beach beyond, etc.

That footage was sweet. And I'm 90% sure that this "Zanzibar" map is NOT one of the 3 that's going to be part of the beta.

Well this is the Xbox 360 thread and the majority of games I play are on the 360, so that's the basis on my point. The majority of games on the 360 have multi-player capability and all have online capabilty. The lack of multi-player support on the PS2 is due to it's laughable online implementation. Had the PS2 had a system like xbox live the number of multi-player games available would have been much larger, IMO.

KurrptSenate 04-25-07 11:57 AM

that seems to be a pretty safe assumption, to me at least

UncleGramps 04-25-07 12:19 PM

Anyone try the new XBLA games yet? I tried the Pinball demo this morning and the physics seemed pretty realistic. But there's no way I'll spend 10 bucks for three virtual pinball tables. Seems like it might be worth it for real pinball fanatics, but not for more casual players. Eets, on the other hand, is right up my alley. I had played the PC demo a while back and enjoyed it, so I played through the XBLA demo to refresh my memory and then decided to get the full version. It's a little like Lemmings and a little like The Incredible Machine. Definitely check out the demo if you like indie games or logic/puzzle games.

Shagrath 04-25-07 12:28 PM

I'll definately be picking up Eets Chowdown soon. Possibly even later today. This is definately a game I can see myself going through a couple times, and it's probably right up my wife's alley as well, which means I'll *have* to purchase it. :)

Canis Firebrand 04-25-07 12:34 PM

I downloaded the demo this morning, but haven't played it yet. From the description and the pictures I saw, it looks like a very fun game.

Michael Corvin 04-25-07 12:45 PM

I know nothing of Eets but it sounds interesting and I love puzzle games.

I did finally go through some of my demo backlog the other day and tried out a few. Alien Hominid being one. What a masochistic game. Seems like it would be a nightmare to get through. The golf game was really bad, based on the demo of course. Gyruss was decent, but not something I want to sink any real time into. Luxor 2 remains my nemesis at the moment.

Mok 04-25-07 01:00 PM

I am loving the pinball game, they did a great job on it. They give you 3 tables and there will be downloadable tables. Yessh there goes my weekend.

Funny you say this, my friends have all been begging to outright demanding that I get an XBOX 360 for the sole purpose of playing online with them for GoW, GRAW and R6LV. In fact, they recently had a video game party and had 3 360's set up just so they could play multi- and co-op online. Now until I can forsee the cost effectiveness of getting a 360, I'll just stick with my PS2/PSP combo for my online gaming (SOCOM).

Alien Hominid really brings it in the difficulty department. Luckily, you can restart at any level you've completed, so you've got 5 continues to make it through one level. I ran through this with a friend a couple weeks ago on normal and while we died a bunch and had to restart levels and all that stuff, it only took a couple of hours. It's a highly enjoyable game once you get the hang of it, and I can't wait for Castle Crashers.

aktick 04-25-07 04:27 PM

Weeeelllll...got my 360 back today. Sent it out 4/9.

Manufacture date of my old unit was 5/3/06...the one I got back was made 12/15/05. I'm guessing this can't be a good thing?

Gonna call and make sure the warranty was transferred to the new unit...that should be fun.

Same here as well. I have a few "friends" on live, but most of the people I play on live are my "real life" friends :) Probally because I am an old, decrepid, febel, weak 33 year old man and those teenagers with there lack of respect for thier elders gets on my nerves :D

With that being said, how many dvdtalkers play other dvdtalkers?

None of my friends have 360 so all of the people I play on Live with are from DVDTalk. I always have a fun time and the experience is much better than playing with random people.

I just played the demo and I will be buying it later. I know what you mean I was very disappointed in MiniGolf too.

MasterofDVD 04-25-07 09:54 PM

I really enjoyed the Eets demo. I wish they showed you more of the various items you can use in the game. I am finally loosing up with my points a bit. I just bought the R6V maps last night and I might spring for Eets as well.

I do, and it tends to make for a more enjoyable experience! As a matter of fact, I regularly kick a bunch of dvdtalkers butts on LIVE, including Tbird2340, Alxrys, Martin5, Exedus Prime, Dr West, 1998Nole, TNAJason .

 j/k

Nosmo Rex 04-26-07 09:02 AM

I've played online with a few DVDTalkers as well. I had my ass handed to me in GoW a few weeks ago as a matter of fact. :)

I have fared a little better in GRAW.

I probably wouldn't play any MP unless I "know" the folks beforehand. A forum like this will let you get a feel for someone's personality, and how they're likely to behave in an MP match. Anyone that's a real ass will get called out in the forum.

That reminds me - now that my 360 is back from repair, I need to get some GRAW2 MP Achievements...

Notice he left out me - that is due to the sheer owning goLucky receives when he plays CoD2 with me. ;)

Hrm, what is your gamertag DAC? I haven't linked your tag with your username here yet in my mind.

Kicker_of_Elves 04-26-07 10:11 AM

The pinball game they released is a lot of fun, only drawbacks is that theres only 3 levels, hopefully they add more thru DLC.
