Far be it from me to point out that it is asinine that you are paying $90 for a game and premium content will be available so soon after the release. Content that should be included for that $10 premium.

It is pretty much an admission of ass-raping. The developers aren't even trying to fool people anymore. Too many people have bent over too easy already so I guess I see their stance. withhold content that should be included and charge for it. People will pay it. The least they could do is hold it for a month, lie, and say they've been working on it since release.

 Oh well, GH2 isn't on my purchase list so it doesn't matter much to me. Just another developer following in the footsteps of EA's wonderful micro-transaction bullshit.

Maybe, but you aren't taking into account the $$$ the developer needs to pay to get the rights to the song. That's got to be a decent chunk of change.

In that case, forget the new system...I'll just get a new hard drive. That's a really senseless move - I'm not spending money on a memory card solely to move game saves over. Plus, there's plenty of "Limited Time Only" things I'd gotten for free that I'm just not interested in paying for.

That can't be the case. They sent me a brand new console when my 360 hit the bricks, and I haven't had a single issue with anything.

argh923 04-03-07 09:35 PM

So for the new extended warranty on repairs...is that retroactive? My 360 bricked in October, and I was sent a new one since they couldn't repair the old one...does that mean it's now under warranty until this October?

Sorry, gonna have to disagree with you on this one. The game is only $10 more on the 360 than it is on the PS2, and comes with 10 new songs, achievements, leaderboards, a much better track arrangement, and better picture and sound. On the PS2 if you want the GH1 games you have to buy GH1, which is at least still $30. Or you can buy the 360 version for $10 more, get more content out of the box, and if you choose to download some of the GH1 songs (with improved mechanics, I might add), then you can for a small fee. Seems perfectly fair to me.

Edit: This is different than what EA does, which is to take out features that are readily available on the previous gen console iterations, then charge you $5-$10 per item. All Red Octane is doing is allowing you to get some older tracks that weren't available on GHII anyway.

Michael Corvin 04-04-07 06:15 AM

I started playing Psychonauts last night. About an hour in. Good stuff. It has a Tim Burton vibe complete with a Danny Elfman like score. Seems like I haven't done much but training in that first hour.

Anyone know about how long this game is?

glasschicken 04-04-07 07:17 AM

^ Don't remember how long it is, maybe 10 - 15 hours, It's been a while. Has some insane level designs though. Mainly the "Milkman Conspiracy" one and "Meat Circus." Plus Raz is voiced by the guy who voiced Invader Zim so it was an instant classic for me.

maxfisher 04-04-07 07:23 AM

How are the load times on the xbox version? I started the game on the PS2, made it about 3 hours in, and had to quit because I would've snapped my controller in half if I had to continue spending a third of my time staring at the birds flitting about on the load screen. I loved what I saw of the game, but it was just unbearable to sit through 15-30 seconds loads every time I moved from one area to another.

spainlinx0 04-04-07 07:44 AM

I don't remember the load times being that bad at all when playing on the Xbox. I simply loved that game. All the levels were amazing. I played for longer than 10-15 hours though because I wanted to collect everything. I never did. :( Still I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I can definitely see myself going back and playing it again all the way through.

My understanding is that everything you download is tied to your Gamer Tag and your XBox. So lets say your Gamer Tag is Bill Gates. if you download and pay for Worms, anyone who plays on your XBox (no matter what Gamer Tag they use) will be able to play Worms. And if you go to your friend's house and sign in as Bill Gates, you can download Worms to that XBox and play it. But your friend won't be able to play it unless he pays to unlock the full version.

If you are the only one who uses your XBox, this is no big deal. The problem comes if you share your XBox with a wife or kids or whoever. If your XBox dies, you can redownload all the stuff when you get the new one, and everything will play fine. But then, when Melinda Gates signs in to play later, she won't be able to access any of the for-pay downloaded content, since she's using neither the Gamer Tag that paid for it nor the XBox it's tied to.

So the simple solution is to download everything under one name?

KurrptSenate 04-04-07 08:19 AM

that wouldn't solve it, according to him

if you still had a problem with that xbox, got another one, created the same tag, and redownloaded everything, you would still have to use that single name to play anything downloaded

Not bad at all. Maybe 10 seconds, if that. Of course I didn't count, but they were barely noticeable.

I am playing it on a 360, not sure if that affects anything or not.

Microsoft designed the 360 from the very beginning to simply be a point-of-sales device for the home. Limited of course, to Microsoft-controlled sales. Because nobody would dish out $300-$400 for a sales terminal with a card-swiper, MS included NextGen gaming as the hook.

Microsoft prevents us 360 owners from creating our own gamer pics, (because they sell them). We can't make our own themes (because they sell them). We can't put our own videos on the harddrive (because they sell videos).

The only reason why we can rip CDs to the harddrive is because MS doesn't sell music.

I'm happy with my 360 but it is frustrating to know how much potential the 360 has that is deliberately limited and throttled back because MS wants to preserve their media sales.

KurrptSenate 04-04-07 09:37 AM

you actually CAN make your own themes and pics, but requires you to have a PC with either XP or Vista

unfortunately for me, Im running 2000, so I can't do all that good stuff. A big article about this was in Game Informer (about personalizing your own shit)

they made a custom one with nintendo images (metroid, zelda) so you know M$ didn't make it

lordwow 04-04-07 10:08 AM

I think the XBLA Arcade (and the VC for the Wii) are brilliant. But I have to agree with the sentiments here. Downloading something 2 weeks after the game came out for $5 is a bit ridiculous. ESPECIALLY when the 360 games are $60 retail already.

Exactly. If games were still $50 retail I doubt this would be an issue, but they forced a $10 increase on everyone and then nickle-and-dime you on top of that.

The non-EA one that gets me is Lego Star Wars II. You weren't able to import the characters from the first game because of BackCompat/Save game issues so they charge to download them. $2. Fine by me, I understand that. I'll pay that paltry amount because I know hosting shit isn't free. BUT... turns out that is all basically bullshit. All the characters are on the friggin' disc. All you get for your money is a key that unlocks them on the disc you already paid a $10 premium for. That is bullshit.

KurrptSenate 04-04-07 10:23 AM

ive really been turned off of all that sh!t tbh

RichC2 04-04-07 10:45 AM

I don't mind it when it's actual bonus material like Guitar Hero 2 -- where you'll be able to essentially buy Guitar Hero 1 via Marketplace. But buying keys to unlock content thats already on the disc is ridiculous and should not be allowed.

There's more to a dashboard theme than just creating a background image. I know about using any background image on the dashboard (which will appear on every blade in the dashboard), but I know of no way to actually create a "theme" (different image for each blade).

If you have a link to a how-to guide, I'd be interested in checking it out.

KurrptSenate 04-04-07 10:54 AM

i don't think it was ever put into data form

what I can do is try to remember to bring in the magazine, and maybe type it up

According to this thread on the XBox Live forum, there is no way to create custom themes:
http://forums.xbox.com/11186346/ShowPost.aspx

OXM had an article about creating custom "themes" but it is simply on how to create and set the background (the same image on each blade).

Also, while you can create a custom gamer pic (like using the vision camera), the custom pic is only available to people on your friends list and doesn't show up on xbox live site.

Gears of Wars new play mode Annex has been reveled according to TeamXbox.com and will be available on April 9. Looks like it is a King of the Hill kind of mode with respawns and a HUD. Not much about what glitches were fixed though.
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13185/...nnex-Revealed/

Annex

Objective: Capture and hold key locations to collect enough points to win the round.

Description: In Annex, you win by keeping control over key map locations, or objectives, long enough to collect a winning number of points. Every map has two to five identified objectives available for capture, with one objective active at a time. Objectives are based on map weapon-spawn locations and have a potential value of 60 points toward either team’s score. Teams collect those points by maintaining ownership of an objective until all its 60 points have been distributed. Every second that a team controls an objective, the team gets one point. When an objective falls to zero points, the next objective is selected at random.

On the HUD, the current objective appears below the team scores at top left. This indicator contains several pieces of relevant information. The weapon icon inside the circle indicates which weapon-spawn location is being used as the objective. The compass along the outer edge of the circle shows the relative direction to the objective. The number inside the circle indicates how many points remain at that objective and the background icon color indicates which team currently controls it. No color means the objective awaits capture, a red icon means the Locust Horde hold the objective and a blue icon means the COG hold it. When the icon in the indicator circle fills, the corresponding team's score also changes color, the team begins collecting points from the objective, and the point value of the objective drops.

On the map, a projected ring marks the physical location and boundaries of the objective in the world. The ring's color indicates the current captor: White means neutral, blue COG, and red Locust. To capture an objective, players must stand inside the glowing ring uncontested for a short period of time. How long depends on how many teammates stand in the ring at once. One player can capture an objective in eight seconds, two players in four seconds, three players in two seconds, and four players in one second. Once a team takes an objective, they are not required to remain inside the ring to maintain ownership. The captured objective's points drain until an opposing team member enters the ring, or until its points fall to zero.

Round scores can be set as low as 120 points or as high as 480 points. The first team to reach the target score wins the round.

Respawns: Infinite, wave-based every 15 seconds.

Options:

* Selected Map: Which map or series of maps to use.
* Number of Rounds: Number of rounds required to win the match.
* Bleed-out Duration: Amount of time before a player dies while DBNO.
* Round Score: Number of points required to win a round.
* Friendly Fire: In a player match, whether teammates can damage each other.
* Private Slots: In a player match, number of player slots reserved for friend invites.
* Weapons Swapped: In a player match, whether the person who sets up the match can determine whether weapons that appear in the maps are replaced or removed.

Updates:

* Annex became available as a Gears of War multiplayer game mode in the April 9 update.

Can someone help me here? I am switching locations I will be playing my 360 at, and thus switching internet connections. I used to be on cable. I tested my new speed and got 423.2 Kbps. I really don't know what's ideal for playing on Live and want to make sure I will be able to without lag. Longer downloads I can handle.

Anyone know when the Marvel UA content is coming?

Noting the speeds that they reference for connections that looks like its rating download.

Check out this one, it will tell you specifically

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Pick a site close to you.

If that was your download speed, I'd say you may have trouble especially if you are hosting games. I've never tried with a connection that slow (most of my online playing was done with my original xbox on live, I have a 360 but haven't ponied up for the gold membership yet on it. It is connected and I download stuff all the time, but as stated my connection is significantly faster than what you are showing).

RichC2 04-05-07 09:44 AM

I don't get why they still consider 1.5mbps to be normal Cable speed, does anyone actually still get that little? (we're up to 6.5mbps locally).
