Which Final Fantasy should I get for DS?
Any suggestions? I prefer non 2d but as long as game play is good I'll get it.

There's only 1 actual DS Final Fantasy (Final Fantasy 3) the others are GBA.
That said, FF3 is a good start, not the best int he series by a long shot, but the visuals are nice and it's fun. |
It's not a DS title but FFVI Advance is one of, if not the, best Final Fantasy titles to date.

FF3 is meant to be the same as the NES game with 3d graphics tacked on and slower random battles (as per 1UP anyway). FF6 is probably one to go for, many people think its the best, and its mechanics, story, and dialogue are more advanced than FF3.

Final Fantasy VI Advance is a GBA game, but its still one of the best Final Fantasys ever made. Its 2D too, so if you haven't played it you really should (even if you played it before I'd still buy it).
FFIII still plays somewhat 2D but the graphics are in 2D. The music is great in both these games as are the graphics, story, and gameplay, I'd recommend both! |

Maybe you should get a PSP if that's actually important to you. But if you really want gameplay over graphics (in which case it's odd you would even mention the preference) Final Fantasy VI is the way to go, it's the best "classic" Final Fantasy in every aspect.. though it is a <strike>bit</strike> lot easier than the others. But it's in horrible, horrible 2D, so.. |
I'd get Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced (GBA) if I were you

FWIW, FFVI is one of my favorite games of all time, and I pretty much can't stand most role-playing games.

All of the FF's released on GBA/DS have been excellent. The FF IV-VI remakes were all well done, and FF:Tactics Advanced was amazing. FF:III for DS was really good but you have to remember that it's a NES game with new graphics. People who aren't used to that style probably won't like it. Be prepared to walk back and forth between towns for hours to level up.
