Xbox and HDTV (and sound) Connection issues.

This is a more technical question, so if it needs to get moved to the DVD hardware section, no issues here.

Basically, I only just got my 5.1 system working with my HDTV. However, the decoder is internal to a DVD player that came with my HTIB. Is it possible to run Xbox (not 360 - yet) sound through the player to the HDTV for 5.1 sound on xbox games? I'm hoping it's possible, but at the same time it doesn't seem very likely because the xbox has to use a different set of inputs on the TV. I've tried running the xbox audio cables through the Aux In lines on the dvd player but no effect.

Would it work if I unplugged the video cables for the dvd player from the TV and plugged the xbox cables in there so that the DVD player sound was still running - with 5.1 and then the xbox video was on the same input -- I don't even know if that's possible.

On a somewhat different note, and this ones more of an issue actually: I picked up the madcatz HDTV kit for my xbox -- I think I left my old xbox component cables at home by accident -- and when I use these on my 42" Hitachi HDTV I seem to get constant rainbowing or lines shimmering in the background -- very distracting and definitely not HDTV quality.

On the other hand, if I use my old, original xbox video cables, the effects are gone, but the picture obviously lacks that HDTV crispness, etc.

Are there any additional settings changes or anything that I would need to make? I'll probably make the jump to 360 sooner or later for some of the newer games, but at the same time I'm a little concerned that an upgrade in system wouldn't necessarily take away the technical issues.

thanks.

Can you post what HDTV and Surround sound sytem you have?

Ideally, your surround sound sytem should have some sort of receiver that can accept audio inputs. Then the Xbox component cables should be on another input on your HDTV unless you only have one input.

Those Madcatz cables aren't the highest quality. They are probably faulty. I'd go with the original Microsoft component cables, then be sure to set up in your xbox dashboard options what resolution your TV can support.

I've already made the hdtv choices on the xbox itself. I would have gone with the xbox MS hidef cables but they don't seem to be available any longer and I left my old ones packed somewhere in the US.

My TV is the Hitach 42HDS69 and I have my 5.1 sound running from my Hitachi HTD-K210 htib (internal dd decoder) -- only just got it finally working last week.

If it's a cable issue, I may try another cable set I found locally or just wait till the summer to buy a 360.
