360 New "Platinum Hits" list

Thought some might be interested in and due out mid March. Here's the release at XBL.

“Lara Kroft Tomb Raider: Legend” (Eidos Interactive Ltd.)
-ohbfrank-
The most famous video game character since Mario and Sonic and they can't spell her name right?

Anyway that's a VERY disappointing list. I don't think there's a single game there that's more than $29.99 at Best Buy currently.

I was really hoping Oblivion was going to be listed.

taffer 02-23-07 02:16 AM

To become a Platinum Hit, the game has to sell half a million copies right?

Then how the hell did Perfect Dark Zero reach that... in Japan of all places. -confused- They tend to hate FPS. Yet they are suddenly buying the worst FPS released in the last few years while ignoring good FPS like Condemned and Call of Duty 2? -screwy-

djones6746 02-23-07 05:51 AM

Can someone cut and paste the list for those of us at work who have idiot employers? Hell...I cannot even look at a coupon from supercuts without the smart filter kicking in. Thanks!!!

Here you go:

Next month’s Platinum Hits release, starting at an estimated retail price of $29.99 (U.S.), will include the following titles in the Americas:

* “Battlefield 2: Modern Combat™” (Electronic Arts)
* “Burnout™ Revenge” (Electronic Arts)
* “Call of Duty 2” (Activision)
* “Dead or Alive 4” (TECMO Inc.)
* “Fight Night Round 3” (Electronic Arts)
* “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter” (Ubisoft)
* “Top Spin 2” (2K Sports)
* “Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis” (Rockstar Games)

In Japan the Platinum Hits titles listed below will be available in March for 2,800 yen:

* “Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (Electronic Arts)”
* “Burnout Revenge” (Electronic Arts)
* “Chrome Hounds” (Sega Corp.)
* “Perfect Dark Zero” (Microsoft Game Studios)

In the Asia Pacific region these new Platinum Hits titles will be available. New pricing for these games will vary slightly by region:

* “Dead or Alive 4” (TECMO)
* “N3: Ninety-Nine Nights” (Microsoft Game Studios)
* “Project Gotham Racing® 3” (Microsoft Game Studios)
* “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter” (Ubisoft)

Gamers throughout Europe are able to pick up the following new Platinum Hits titles, launched earlier this month, for an estimated retail price of 29.99 euros:

* “Call of Duty 2” (Activision)
* “Dead or Alive 4” (TECMO)
* “Project Gotham Racing 3” (Microsoft Game Studios)
* “Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis” (Rockstar Games)
* “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter” (Ubisoft)

I may be wrong, but I think Sony's 'greatest hits' are based on sales numbers while Microsoft's are just 'we wanna sell this older title'.

I can't speak on Condemned, but Perfect Dark Zero at least had some character and style to it; Call of Duty 2 looks EXACTLY like every other WWII FPS released in the last ten years (and fuck, is that a lot of them). Based on first impressions (box art, etc.), the Japanese market is likely to take something that has a more unique look to it over a generic solider game.

Condemned was awesome. Definitely the scariest game I've played, especially if you have a nice surround system and play in the dark. Amazing environments and graphics.

I'll probably pick up Battlefield and FN3 from that list as I never got around to those and wasn't sure if I wanted to drop $60 on them

Those are wise $30 choices. You'll get a lot of enjoyment out of those, especially if you take Battlefield online.

KurrptSenate 02-23-07 08:33 AM

the sad thing is, i've owned all the american titles on that list besides top spin 2

Josh H 02-23-07 09:16 AM

That's a disappointing list since most of those games have been readily available for $20-30 at places like best buy numerous times (and some had already stayed at $30 for a while).

I'd have rather seen $19.99 pricing ala the Greatest Hits lineup as well.

Hopefully they'll be some more games on the list, and more at $20 in various stores after a $100 price drop on the console (if and when that occurs).

CaptStormy 02-23-07 10:09 AM

I personally was hoping Dead Rising was going to be on that list...

Michael Corvin 02-23-07 10:38 AM

I bet that one still pushes a lot of units. No need for a price drop.

Supermallet 02-23-07 10:56 AM

Sweet. now we can buy the game at the price it's already listed, but now we get really truly awful artwork in addition to the regular cover art!

slop101 02-23-07 11:20 AM

Hmm... Most of those games have been in the $20-$30 price range for a while now.
This is just marketing to let more people know that 360 games can be had for less.

Schloob1 02-23-07 12:19 PM

So much for the rumors late last year that Oblivion would be part of the list.
That was the one title I was holding out for. Oh well.

TimeandTide 02-23-07 12:30 PM

GRAW and COD2 for me. Both have been on sale for these prices at CC and BB recently but I didn't pull the trigger. I'm in for both now.

Josh H 02-23-07 12:38 PM

CoD2 has been on sell for $19.99 numerous times, so you might want to wait on pulling the trigger at $29.99.

That is only PS2 Greatest hits. Platinum hits have no sell point and judging by some of the crap that becomes platinum hits I think they use platinum hits to clear out crappy games but put a few good games in there from time to time.

porieux 02-23-07 04:19 PM

I've never seen Call of Duty 2 anywhere for less than $40. And I've looked a lot.
I won't pay more than $20 for it though, so I may still be waiting a while....

Josh H 02-23-07 04:38 PM

It's been $20 at best buy a couple of times.

Supermallet 02-23-07 08:39 PM

I picked up a used copy of Fight Night at work today specifically to avoid getting one with the awful platinum hits artwork down the line.

tpc 02-24-07 08:22 AM

I bought Fight Night a month ago with the hideous Platinum hits art work.

spainlinx0 02-24-07 08:30 AM

I really don't care about the artwork on the box so it's not a big deal to me. If I decide to pick up the 360 I just want the games cheap.
