How does the Geek Squad install 360 games?

I bought RB6 Vegas yesterday at Best Buy and it has a sticker on it that says "GEEK SQUAD Let us Install it!"

Ok. So do they come to your house and put it in your disc drive?

Are people dumb enough to pay them to do it?

um, actually, you can rip 360 games, and put them on a hard drive. obviously, that would be illegal for BB to do.

anyway, its probably a foul-up

Hey! It's not that easy to install an XBox game. Not only do you have to put the disc in the drive and close the drive, you also have to XBox live and download any updates for you. Thank God this long-overdue service is finally available!

Sometimes that disc tray open/close button is tough to push correctly. If I'm not paying attention, I occasionally hit the sync button or the power button instead, which causes me to become very confused and angry. In addition, I don't always want to get off the couch to switch games. So please don't mock those of us who choose to make use of the Geek Squad's award-winning services.

Is Geek Squad losing money? That might explain it. Gotta make money on that purchase somehow.

I don't think it was a foul up since it was on almost every 360 game. I didn't notice other systems.

I work at Best Buy and here's the deal, the hard plastic cases they use to put games in for security, they get re-used often, and not just for games. We put sticks of RAM in the cases as well. The stickers are placed there for the RAM.

People who would be dumb enough to use Geek Squad would probably be dumb enough to think this is a valuable service as well.

I have a couple of friends that work at Geek Squad City, maybe I need to have them install some games for me.

They'll probably hook up your 360 with an RF adaptor!

If I would have known the service was available I would have bought a 360 months ago.

Circuit City had a "Let us install it" sticker on my GPS System I got. The one that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

I understand what you're saying, but on a recent 60 Minutes they had a segment on service industries like the Geek Squad, and they were talking to a professor at MIT, who also happens to be the guy who developed the specs and technology for high-defintion television (so he's much smarter than all of us), and the ironic thing was that he admitted that even he couldn't figure out how to hook up and operate his own HDTV and had to call in one of these Geek Squads to do it for him - it was pretty funny.

I paid them to install a firewall and the latest antivirus protection (with popup blockers) onto my Xbox360

I dont know, to me its worth it. Not a single virus yet and its great peace of mind.

If it was on the plastic security casing, there's a simple explanation. Those are the same cases used for the computer memory, and each department shares them. Our store had that sticker on all security cases (retarded, I know). But that's probably your explanation - computer memory.

that said, I bet they'd still take your money if you wanted them to come over and 'install' the game.

Can't argue with that statement, Ferris.

Speak for yourself, he's definitely not smarter than me

Ivory tower academics can be some of the biggest idiots around.
