Dreamcast in high definition
 

Recently I've had the hankering to play my Dreamcast again. And in the time since I retired it I bought an HDTV, so I'd like to play them in 480p.

Because my TV doesn't have a VGA input I'd have to convert the signal to component. Has anyone here done something like this? How did it work out, what did you use, and how much did it cost you?

I don't think you're necessarily "upconverting", but in any event since my TV doesn't support RGB, it looks like I'll have to get a transcoder. All these steps... it's almost making S-Video look worthwhile. :eek:

I had remembered stumbling across that when I was looking up 480p Gamecube games. That's actually a decent resource for last-gen HDTV gaming.

But yeah, I've seen recipes for seven-course meals more straight forward than that component work-up.

I have three games for my Dreamcast system. Sonic Adventure, Grandia II(currently playing) and Shenmue. I just picked up another system yesterday which the seller claims to have only used 10 times as the original owner. I wanted a backup system mainly for Shenmue. I have to have the ability to play Shenmue in the future. I may wind up picking up an S-Video cable as it seems like alot work in order to enjoy component. :)

The Dreamcast is the one system that i actually mourned its passing. I would kill for some new versions of Jet Set Radio (and Future on the Xbox was merely ok, i hated the replacing of the sweeping graffiti system with simple button presses).

We played San Francisico 2049 an obscene amount even keeping a chart on a whiteboard to track our wins/losses against one another. It was a cutthroat competition game for me right after college when i had several gaming friends in town.

The problem is, not all DC games support VGA. :( Both my devices - an Optoma HD72 projector and a 37" Olevia LCD - support VGA, assuming I used a few component to VGA adapters, but I'd have to have a backup plan for playing games like Last Blade 2. DC had the best fighting games!

I leave my DC hooked up via s-vid to a gamebridge 1410 on my PC. Looks awful compared to VGA but I don't want to be swapping cables for different games.

So where can I get VGA or s-video cables for my Dreamcast?

I have seen some cheap s-video cables on ebay with shipping for around $7.00. :)
