Gain Ground removed from VC lineup?

well, we all know Sega's 3 VC titles scheduled for release LAST monday were all pushed back because of LTTP. However, NOW it appears (according to joystiq) that one of them has been scrapped alltogether! Gain Ground, one of my favorite Genesis titles has apparently been "replaced" by Contra III for SNES.

I can't check Sega's website because of a proxy. Can anyone check sega.com and tell me if there is still a release date listed for this gem?

I just looked at Sega's site and they list the release date for Gain Ground as today.

Is this game really any good? I tried it on the PS2 collection, and quit after about 2 minutes of disgust. Is there really a diamond underneath all that manure? Not meant to be a threadcrap, but an honest question.

This is the same experience that I had recently.

the reality of it is, not many people have ever tried this game, or have even heard of it before. what would be the point in releasing a VC title that most people have generally never heard of? Obviously, the percentage of people that would download are in the vast minority.

It makes sense that it would be canned for more popular titles

At Nintendo's pricing structure, yes. If they had been more reasonable people would be more open to trying out shit they missed out on.

Maybe they should adopt a pricing structure based on original sales/popularity? Not a new structure, but based off what is already there. Hit games on the NES - 500 pts. Shit games on the NES 250 and so on.

Seems that they are going at it in reverse, the base price and a few exceptions will be MORE expensive because of popularity.

definitely...

If there was some way to demo the games out....in a "legal" manner, it probably wouldn't be an issue. I don't know of anyone taking chances on VC games.

Sure, you could download an emulator + rom, but that totally defeats the purpose of the VC

Actually, I don't think we know that's why at all.
Some have speculated this, but I highly doubt it.
They probably just weren't ready yet.

It's one of my favourite genesis games, one of the very few I still have the cart for.

Hmm, I can see why first impressions would be poor. The graphics are not really anything special, and the single screen gameplay seems simplistic. You probably need to have a go at it for at least an hr or 2, preferably with a friend. The co-op mode is where this game is at its best. You will start to collect more of the different characters, and while some of them will seem completely useless at first, you'll later get to a difficult level, or boss, where suddenly they become useful! Of course, certain characters remain totally useless.

There are some great gameplay moments, like you're trying to collect a new character in the top corner, and you blow through 3 characters trying to do it! Or you get trapped in a corner, and your buddy has to come in to back you up.

Anyway, I'd almost consider paying the retarded high wii vc fees for this particular game, if I had the means to do so (no wii). This, TJ&E, and SOR2, are some of the best coop experiences on the gen.

Joystiq is reporting this game is a go for today.

Not when I posted. I checked VGT first and the top story was Konami Whammy. :nopanic:

Yeah the story was pending approval or something :(
