X-Box 360 on a Normal TV Question

I am considering buying a 360 and then later in the year upgrading my TV to a new HD Television. I was wondering how the games look on a normal screen (the way i will have to play until i get a chance to move to HD)? Its just that everytime i see a 360 in any games store it is always being run on a HD screen.

I understand that it will not look anywhere near as good....but is it acceptable at least. How do effects in games come over on a normal screen (i.e. explosions, fire effects).

Any advice and info is appreciated.

Like you said.. It's definitely a night / day difference. I had a SDTV for the first couple months and it was definitely playable and wouldn't stop me from buying a 360.

If you're going to get a HDTV down the road I would buy the 360 now.. I wouldn't let having a SDTV stop me from getting a 360.

I've been playing mine on HDTV for about a year now, and a couple weeks ago I was at my buddy's house & he was playing on a standard 32". Everything looked cramped, and totally 'not the same'. He had Oblivion in, which I've probably played for 1,000 hours, and it actually took me a minute to realize what it was. To him, I'm sure it wasn't noticable, but after seeing HD for so long, I thought it looked horrible. He did complain that some things were hard to read (too small), like on Dead Rising.

Going from HDTV to SDTV will probably suck, yes. I started out my 360-ing on a standard TV though and found it perfectly acceptable. Upgrading only made things better. There's nothing wrong with playing the 360 on SDTV.

I have an HDTV here in my room, but an SDTV in the living room that I move it to when friends come over. It is perfectly fine playing it on that TV, and it makes me appreciate HD so much more when I move it back in here.

Gears of War certainly looks amazing on my friends SDTV, so it's still worthwhile.

You just have to watch some games though. In Dead Rising the text was unreadable on an SDTV and reviews said that Rainbow Six Vegas looked worse than a PS2 game on an SDTV (but great on HD).

Let me hijack the thread for a second...

KingSmoth--The quote in your signature is awesome.

Oh, and along with what others have said, obviously the difference between SD and HD is like night and day, but the difference between say, playing on a 27" SD vs. playing on a 50" SD is like the difference between at least late afternoon and night. Folks, size matters.

Well that makes me feel a little better actually as i have a nice big 50" screen...so at least it will help me get by until i invest in a good sized HD later in the year.

I played on the 360 for the first time over the weekend at a relatives. I played it on the largest HD TV i have ever seen. This thing was literally the size of the guys living room wall. It made quite an impression playing Gears of War on it. I really doubt i will be able to get something as big.......but it showed me the potential of the machine. I loved the feel of the controller, the wireless and little things like being able to turn on the console using the controller. Great ideas.

I'm playing on a 27" Sanyo SDTV that I bought from Wal-Mart more than a year ago. I'll probably upgrade to an HDTV sometime this summer but for now the component inputs are giving me a good quality pic. It's running in 480i.

if you are running components (R, G, B) it would be in 480p

I don't think SDTVs do 480p.

I bought my son a 360 for Christmas. He's playing it on a 32" Zenith hooked up via component cables. Looks good IMO. Not as good as mine in High Def but definatly good....
