PS3 Extended Warranty

I bought a PS3 last night from EB Games...

I wanted to see the system in action - but the guy said the display system overheated and broke. It was the last one - so I bought it (I am not going to open it up, because I'm not sure if I want it or not)

Well the guy rings me up, and does not try to "sell" me the extended warranty. So, I ask about it and he says 1 yr warranty is $70 - so I bought it.

Do you guys think they don't want to sell the warranty because these things are duds?

I bought this thing as a bluray player primarily.

I found my first PS3 at EB a month or so ago and was in the same situation. 70 bucks sounds like an assload for one year, so I didn't open it and looked around some more. I found one at Best Buy and got their 2 year warranty for 80 bucks. The piece of mind I got for 10 extra dollars made the choice ridiculously easy. I also mainly picked it up for BD, so I'm much more comfortable with it now knowing it's covered until December 2008.

Does Sony offer an extended warranty at all? I have not found one on their site.

I am on the Best Buy site now and don't see an option for the extended warranty.

I'm calling CSR to find out if I can get the warranty if I buy it online.

Update:

At first the CSR said "there is no extended warranty for this item"

I said - my friend just bought one... she put me on hold and came back and said that if you buy one online you have to go into the store and buy the 2yr warranty.

Hmmm, sounds like i might want to consider this when i get a PS3... What about CC's price on the extended warrenty? Or do they have one at all for the PS3?

Didn't Sony replace broke PS2's for free? I thought they had a decent track record for repairs...I could be wrong though.

Sony's track record for repairs is appalling. They denied the infamous PlayStation skipping problem and charged me $85 to "fix" my PS six months after I bought it. The thing started skipping again within a few months, and they wanted another $85. Many people had to play these things upside down and on their sides and Sony never acknowledged the issue.
