Sony's contempt for gamers is to force the blu-ray disc format on them when they don't particularly want it. At least Xbox allows HD DVD playback to be an add-on option, and not shoehorned into the gaming console like the PS3.
Obtopic - so... anyone know when the next big Wii shipments are going to hit the stores?

No idea which version I saw. The boxes weren't facing the right way.

360s became pretty easy to get by Feb, I know that's when I got mine last year.

We can sit here and argue about little details all you want, but what it boils down to is this. Gamers want a gaming machine first and foremost, and aren't nearly as worried about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. If I'm wrong about that, then you explain why PS3s are just sitting in stores right now.

I would still love to know about Wiis and their next shipment. I talked to an employee at BB and they still get their shipments via UPS. They could not tell me when they are getting their next shipment in.

The guys at circuit city told some one around March for Wiis. This was when they figured someone could walk into a store at anytime and buy, not getting particurlarly lucky to find one. They said the same for the DS.

Well, if you want to try to compare prices,
with wireless and HDD:
Xbox 360 premium (400) + HD DVD (200) + wireless connector (100) = 700
without wireless but with Hard drive:
400 + 200 = 600
The major difference, of course, is that Microsoft gives you the option. Which at first I thought was a pretty dumb move (as is the lack of HDMI), but I've grown to love my HD-DVD player. Can't really compare the core system with any PS3 system since no PS3 system comes without a hard drive, and unlike wireless and a next-gen DVD player, most would argue that the hard drive is pretty important.
Anyway, no Wiis or PS3s in the Southern California area today. I still see Wiimotes pretty regularly, but nunchuks and classics are hit and miss... of course, I'm waiting for Best Buy to get them so I can use the GGC. Only have 3 wiimotes, waiting for wiiplay for my fourth. And I can't find component cables for the Wii at all...

Core $300+ HD $200 = $500 (entry level PS3 w/BR)
Prem $400 + HD $200 = $600 (premium level PS3 w/BR)
Simple as that. You can break down every little feature down to including a headset, achievements, unified friends lists, component included, yada, yada, but the price just to watch movies is the same. The only difference comes down to the price of cables. Depending on which 360 combo you choose you can watch HD out of the box which can't be said of the PS3.
Aren't the majority of 360 owners previous Xbox owners anyway? Most of whom already have a hard line run to their entertainment setup? The amount of people needing wireless is probably pretty small. It is, in no way, a required purchase to enjoy the system.

I just heard unofficially that Targets will be getting at least 5 Wiis on Thursday Jan 4th.
Again, I do not know how credible the information is, but I plan on being there when they open at 8am just in case.
