Add "IMPORTANT WORK STUFF OKAY?" to the meta tags. Then the robots will be all like, "Oh, we can't block this."

i hope this means more wii game reviews. aside from that, looks great.

Josh H 12-09-06 03:03 PM

Looks pretty nice. Will have to start covering a lot more Nintendo stuff to get any interest from me since all I have are the Wii, DS and PS2 now.

Aye aye Captain!

You heard that team, let's get working to keep Hinkle happy!

In all honesty, we're doing all we can to cover ALL platforms as best we can. This evolution is a step in the right direction to get better coverage from PR companies. Now instead of me telling them we have the news in a thread on the forum, I can point them to the home page where they can see it for themselves. It's a win-win-win situation.

Arpeggi 12-09-06 03:53 PM

That FIFA 07 review is horrible. The reviewer obviously doesn't know a thing about sports/sports games.

Oh I know you're doing the best you can. But it's got a long way to go to make people want to take a look at it instead (or even in addition to) the big gaming sites.

Being sarcastic to people making suggestions won't win you any fans either.

Thanks for the feedback - which FIFA review, 360 or Xbox? That will help in further review allocation.

I figured you'd be able to take a joke - that's why I posted it.

Yeah I realize that it's a tough thing to break away from the big guys, but we have to try right? Especially since we ARE a big guy in the DVD world.

Becoming too big might not be that good. It would attract all the kids from the Gamefaqs boards. I would seriously cry if these boards ever got as bad as the Gamefaqs boards.

I don't worry about that. All it would mean is much more work for the mods with suspensions and bannings--and I'm not a mod. :D

In all seriousness though, the kids would get ran out of here pretty quickly by how strict the rules are if the site ever did happen to get that big.

XBox 360. Little or no "gameplay" review, just fluff. Even the reviewer admitted he didn't know anything about sports.

actyper 12-11-06 11:16 AM

What I wouldn't mind seeing is the overall review score in a column along with all the reviews/reviewer.

So on the review page you mean? Or on a reviewer's page, list not only the reviews, but also the score?

With no avatars and giant jpg banner signatures I don't think it will be a problem. They would have to actually think and post coherent thoughts to individualize themselves. I don't see that happening.

Sounds like he means review page, and that is a good idea.

I'd like on the reviewers page as well, then you can just see what they give games and judge if their tastes seem to mesh up with yours when deciding who's reviews to pay more attention to etc.

I'll post it to the admin forum - I agree it would be nice to see.

It'd be a breeze to implement, but with the limited width of the page, something would have to go. The genres, maybe? I'd think most people would already know that in advance anyway.

pinata242 12-11-06 02:55 PM

What's restricting the width besides the ad at the top?

Damn - beat me to it!

I'd say toss the genres.

mbs 12-11-06 03:05 PM

So with the new site, it seems the overall "recommended/highly recommended/skip it" is no longer on the review pages? Or maybe I cannot find it. It used to be under the stars for the overall rating, right? Now it seems gone (or maybe I just cannot find it).

Can you bring it back?

CSS someone else wrote that breaks whenever I try to change it. :D

Done. Might be worth replacing the text with smaller graphics at some point.

Breakfast with Girls 12-11-06 04:43 PM

There need to be archives of previous news items and the ability for visitors to comment using their forum username and password.

Also, when I click on news, I only see a link for PlayStation 2 under 'Browse by platform'.

There's a news archive under the main "news" heading in the menu bar. It's not currently grouped by date, but I might add something like that later. I really don't want to go the whole blog-style commenting route, especially since there's already a forum in place.

That sidebar is populated by the games associated with each article. 'Sprobably just that no one's using that feature right now. I may have to add the ability to associate consoles directly with the news down the road.

There should probably be a link to archived news at the bottom-right side of the index page, in that case. That's where it normally is on blogs, which is what the index page most resembles.
