Simple Yes / No Regarding 1080p

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN-S40...&s=audio-video

with the official xbox 360 vga cables, will this tv accept its 1080p output for games and hd-dvds?

Supermallet 10-29-06 01:48 AM

From that specific listing, I didn't see anywhere where they said that would accept 1080p via RGB.

her34 10-29-06 04:45 AM

maybe

Looking at this page it doesn't seem like it will over VGA. The Westinghouse 1080p sets all accept 1080p over VGA however.

PopcornTreeCt 10-29-06 11:56 AM

I think it should. It has 2 different HDMI outputs.

edstein 10-29-06 01:57 PM

VGA does not equal HDMI

The Bus 10-29-06 03:07 PM

The Xbox 360, AFAIK does not output 1080P, although they said it might be there on some games in the future.

Deftones 10-29-06 03:20 PM

There is going to be an update that will allow for 1080p sometime this fall.

Yes, but the 360 comes with HDMI cables.

?! No it doesn't.

No, it doesn't come with HDMI. Only cables I found on Xbox.com are S-video, VGA, and HD AV, no HDMI.

I have heard that they're working on it.

That would be pretty useless as the 360 doesn't have HDMI output.

goLUCKY 10-29-06 06:37 PM

My understanding is that the 360 will be able to display 1080p through VGA after the update, so yes it will be able to display 1080p through VGA cables.

im_ryandick 10-29-06 06:52 PM

thanks for the answers, but i still haven't really gotten the question i'm looking for.

will that specific tv accept the 1080p output, AFTER THE UPDATE, using the official vga cables? if not, please recommend another samsung LCD that does.

second, my uncle works for microsoft in the DM division, and there are still no plans for HDMI, because there truly is no need for it.
true HD can be achieved without it, so there's no point in using it yet.

Deftones 10-29-06 07:16 PM

It would be pretty pointless to offer 1080p through VGA if tvs won't support it. Nobody here knows about your specific TV. Contact the manufacturer and ask them. They'll know better than we will.

edstein 10-29-06 07:47 PM

The native resolution is 1080p over HDMI and component. I would assume that RGB would be 1080p as well.

Supermallet 10-29-06 07:53 PM

Never assume when it comes to 1080p inputs.

PopcornTreeCt 10-29-06 09:52 PM

Oh, I thought the HDAV cables were called HDMI cables. Oops.

Well in your case there would be a use because if it did have HDMI there would be no point in starting this thread. As for the TV, is there any specific reason why it has to be a Samsung?

With component inputs I'd have to agree but an LCD with VGA inputs should support the same resolution as the HDMI inputs. Especially on the newer units.

kakihara1 10-30-06 08:45 AM

AFAIK all TVs that have a VGA connection allow Native Resolution on the VGA. So your checklist should go as follows.

Is the TV native 1080p?
Does the TV have VGA in?

Answer yes to both questions and your TV supports 1080p through VGA. :)

Oh and Fandango, I'm guessing it has to be Samsung because for the cost/quality equation Samsung cannot be beat. But that's obviously just my opinion.

Have you considered calling Samsung? That may be a much quicker way of finding the answer you're looking for.
