Best Time To Sell Your PS3

I know there is an official PS3 thread but it is already so bloated...
When do you think the best time to sell a PS3 would be?

Sub Question: What is the safest shipping method to use with PayPal?

Once you have the system in hand. I expect a landslide here.

And while the standing no the street one may land a huge profit, it may also get you mugged.

Thanks, I've been here nearly a year and no one's mentioned it! Feels good :)
Yeah I called every TRU at around 3pm. No luck.

Any shipping method is fine, but make absolutely sure you get a tracking number and/or delivery confirmation. Otherwise, if the buyer claims they never got the package, then there is no way you can prove that you mailed it. Without this proof, Paypal will always side with the buyer and refund their money.

I think the best time to sell a PS3 on ebay would be a week before Christmas. There are a LOT of last minute shoppers. Remember the stories of Tickle Me Elmo where parents would actually physically fight each other over a stupid doll. When parents can't find a PS3 in stores, they will turn to ebay. These parents will pay pretty much anything to get a PS3 for spoiled Little Johnny so he doesn't throw a tantrum on Christmas day.

Paypal requires you to use signature confirmation if you ship anything worth $350 or over I believe to be eligible for the seller protection policy.

if i was selling a PS3 this year, I would only ship registered mail.

20 pound package shipped Priority with Registered mail and other services is $50 including insurance up to $1000. It's an extra $15 or $20 over the cost of regular mail, but the protection is probably worth it.

Like kgroger1979 said make sure follow the list of rules on the PayPal Seller Protection Policy.

al_bundy 10-29-06 10:03 AM

and only ship to confirmed paypal addresses no matter how much some buyers whine

Went back to another Toys R Us at 10am
There was like 30 people in line but only 3 PS3 preorders (One family got them all)
But I did pick up 2 of those new TMX Elmos>?

You guys think the same thing right before xmas? I remember in 96 seeing a guy by the road selling them (thats why I added it for the PS3 poll)

If I were going to sell a PS3, I think I'd wait until the day after launch when people who "need" one and didn't get one start to get desperate. You could probably milk a few more dollars out of them that way.

Only if you're stupid enough to bring it with you. :)

I was the single vote for "Week Before Christmas Standing By The Road With A Sign" but I took this to mean "selling it in person and not over Ebay", which would include flyers, bulletin board postings, etc. I still think the best bet for dumping one of these systems will be to 1) desperate parents who don't have a grasp on Ebay and 2) desperate parents who procrastinated because they were too naive to understand the demand and want one at the last minute before Xmas.

Where's the option "I'm going to keep it because I like it?"

keep the PS3? I thought the sole purpose of the PS3 was so everyone can assrape everyone else?

I'm also in the very very small group of "I would keep it if I could find one" but since I don't like the idea of some guy named Bubba giving me an anal rubbing for 2000.00 it doesn't really matter.

Hey buddy, no threadcrapping.

But seriously, I had the option of selling my 360 at launch, but I decided to keep it. Great decision. It was my choice. I'm sure those keeping it will enjoy the hell out of it, but I'm choosing to unload the PS3.

For paypal Ship w/ a tracking number and make sure only the person who is on the paypal account signs for it to the confirmed address. Delivery confirmation isn't enough. If at all possible make a video clip of you packing the thing up and mailing it off...maybe extreme but once I was accused of selling a defective camera. I had made a small clip of myself messing around with the camera just before I packed it up. Sent the guy the video and I didn't hear from him again. Turns out he was trying out 3 or 4 cameras looking at the auctions he won and he wanted a refund from me. I don't know what happened to the other people but he soon listed mine for sale on ebay after I called him out. Can't stand ebay

edit - I see my suggestions have already been mentioned :D

How much difference do you guys think it will make having the Core system instead of the Premium system to eBay buyers? Are people desperate enough to spend an extra $1000 that concerned over the $100 price difference at retail, or will the Core systems fetch a lot less at auction?

I'm wondering if that might be a way to get a PS3 without a pre-order.

Michael Corvin 11-01-06 08:45 AM

I'm hoping it won't make a difference. There wasn't much of one on the 360. People that wanted one didn't care, as long as they got one. Not to mention the gap of features between the two PS3 skus shrunk considerably.

I have a core on preorder. I'm last on the list as well, so if Sony cuts any here, I'll be the first to be bumped.
