Gametrailers has a slew of brand new hi-def, direct-feed movies of Gears of War that have to be seen to be believe. Framerate and animation is butter smooth, and this games visuals are better than anything I've ever seen aside from Crysis, which is a DX10 game. I never imagined Cliffy and Epic would have this game so polished, and these are multiplayer movies.

http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1650 :jawdrop: Unbelievable. Finally somthing that will make me put Halo 2 on the shelf once and for all. The gameplay looks outstanding. Notice how you only get one shot with the sniper rifle, THANK YOU! Bungie can learn a few things from this game. |
Wow! They were showing some of gameplay footage on the News last week when they had that party at the graveyard. I was blown away then, and I'm blown away now. That shit looks tight!
|
By the way, they've got 10 different vids up now, but vids 9 and 10 aren't available in hi-def, yet.

Yes the transfer kits do work, but unless you are looking to gamesave not really any need for it, unless you are worried about your hard drive dying.
I don't personally own one, but I know of a few that do have it. |
Those GoW videos is why I'm so fucking excited for that game, especially in multiplayer.
By the way, the new OXM has a big write-up on Half-Life 2 on the 360. The short of it is: Half-Life 2 with updated graphics, Episode 1, Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress will all be available on one $60 360 disc day and date with Episode 2 on PC. That's right, go ahead and read that again. Half-Life 2 on the 360 will apparently look better than it currently does on PC, and it will come with all of that stuff. Episode 2 is twice as long as Half-Life 2 with half of Episode 1 tacked on to boot. So that's hours upon hours of gameplay for $60, not even including Portal and Team Fortress. Gabe Newell also said that we could expect Counterstrike, Day of Defeat Source, and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch on the 360, as well as Episode 3 as a marketplace download. Let the good times roll. |

The update took less than a minute, and I was able to play videos (.wmv files) without any problems (I used Windows Media Connect).

So the new update got me thinking. With this one containing, possibly, the final essential upgrades (headset, HD-DVD, 1080p), all future ones will likely be purely cosmetic. With MS experimenting with premium content for Gold users, anyone think it will be likely MS will charge($5?) for future updates for Silver members?
Not that it really concerns me, but I definitely see MS heading down that route. And finally, I don't have to wait for my Arcade list to populate. Damn was that ever annoying. One of the feature lists said you could recommend a video to people on your friends list. Has anyone figured out how this is done? I went to my video collection and just the usual options are there. |
I may be the only person awake. The Xbox Dashboard update is up. I just tinkered around with Marketplace and some dashboard options. Looks nicer.

Video streams perfectly, too. :-)

Someone on CAG reported that the update crashed his system. I remember this happened to me with the very first update....probably just a random error, but who knows, it has happened before.
I installed WMP11. Where do we tell it what folders to share with the 360? I know this pretty much replaces Windows Media Connect....right? |

Sounds like this was a great dashboard update. Can't wait to get home and download it now. Streaming video without Media Center

So far I'm loving this latest update. I'm testing things out right now. I had a GTA Vice City Stories trailer that I streamed from my laptop to the 360. It kind of froze in the begining, and then played fine. Might be a problem with my internet connection. Right now I'm going to test streaming things from my desktop to the 360 and making a data disc with video to use on the 360. God I love the technology and time we are living in now!!

has anyone confirmed other formats other than WMV that can be streamed or played?
|
has anyone noticed that little "does not expire" in each downloaded video description now? I guess that means we'll be seeing stuff that we'll only be able to keep for a limited time now, huh?
|
My Videos folder also had other files with the following formats: .mpg, .avi, and none of them appeared on my 360. Only the wmvs.

I can understand not being able to use quicktime and real player files, but it kind of stinks that you can't use mpg and avi. |
son of a bitch. How about when burned?
