That part seems familiar, but I don't remember where I went. I'd have to play through that level again to find out. I don't remember having too much trouble with the first level (I'm guessing that's the level you're talking about), so you're probably just missing something really simple. You've probably already looked, but do you see any red arrows on your map that tell you where to go?

Okay, I figured it out. I missed a stairwell in the room where you deactivate the missile.

Playing a horror game like Resident Evil in a cemetery would be scary as hell, but why Gears of War at a cemetery?

I wonder what the family of "Sunshine" Minne Belle Evans thinks about people playing GoW next to her final resting place?

Its probably the most excitement shes had in years.

That ad was nice. Ive always been a sucker for juxtaposed music to scenes. I love movies that play classical music or something soft/lite while someone is getting whacked. Ive always felt that in a sick persons mind (a mobster, serial killer etc.) that death and killing someone is as innocent and light as one of those songs.

How to get the playable Rainbow Six: Las Vegas Demo (available outside of the US - go figure):
Microsoft has made Rainbow Six: Vegas available to LIVE users in Europe and Japan. Unfortunately the US must wait till next month to experience this awesome new RAINBOX SIX game in High Definition (a series first). If you do not want to wait till next month or track down an Official XBOX Magazine (mine has not arrived yet) , you can circumvent XBL Marketplace Region lockout by creating a 2nd LIVE Account (Silver not Gold) with your region set to Europe or Japan.

Example:

1. Go to XBOX.COM > XBOX LIVE

2. Select "JOIN MY XBOX".

3. Create a new gamertag. The email address you use must NOT be associated with any other XBOX LIVE account.

4. When filling in data for address, leave street address blank and then choose a country (you provide the city). I used London, England as my home address.

5. Complete the process then go to your XBOX 360 and select "Recover gamertag from XBOX LIVE" from the 360 dash (if you do not have auto log-on enabled). If you set your 360 to "auto log-on to LIVE" you must log out of the XBOX LIVE and then select "Recover gamertag from XBOX LIVE".

6. Once the account is recovered you can download RAINBOX SIX: VEGAS from the Marketplace. After downloading, you can either remain logged into your new gamertag or log out and use your existing account. The demo is available to any profile on the console.

7. ENJOY (as I did last night).

Considering they have probably sold the Sci-Fi / Horror / Action crowd on GoW already, a little outreach to those Garden State / Donnie Darko folks is ok with me.

I loved the video. It was an excellent change of pace compared to the deluge of current footage.

Breaking Halo 3 news!

Joystiq

Has a rundown of leaked info on Halo 3 courtesy of a Portuguese gaming mag. Click the link for a rundown of some new weapons, vehicles, button functions and more.

The  worthy tidbit is the special edition which is a 4 DVD set that comes packaged in a replica of Master Chief's helmet. Sounds like one disc is the usual fluff piece. Another has Red vs. Blue stuff and the fourth will have cut footage of Halo 1 & 2 in HD.

Anyone wanna take bets on price for such a thing? I wouldn't doubt MS trying to squeeze a $100 out of people for it. Especially if this is the last of the core franchise.

OMG, Sony was right! 4 discs!? The 360 should have waited for HD-DVD standard before rushing out and forcing this on us. Blu-Ray, here I come...

I agree. With more storage on discs, we should be minimizing the amount of discs needed.

Does it seem as impressive on one disc?

I know that's the reason, but if they can find an innovative way to showcase the insane amount of data there is on one disc, I'll gladly go for convenience. And if not, hell, do it anyway. I'm tired of swapping discs for special features.

Save Ferris 10-27-06 02:24 PM

Even with 50gb disks they will have 'special editions' with multiple disk packs. It allows them to increase the price and it makes the consumer think they are getting a lot for their money. Its simple marketing.

kgrogers1979 10-27-06 02:26 PM

Eh, how many times are you going to watch the extra features? I watch them once, maybe twice, but after that I never touch them again. It sounds like the actual game itself fits on one dvd and that's all that matters to me. Plus, I am not so lazy that I can't get up off my fat ass to change discs.

Oblivion Junkies: Here is a little info on the Knights of the Nine Expansion pack headed to Xbox Live Marketplace next month:

- New monsters (that look like elven armored statues)
- Expansion effects at least one city in the sense of "dynamic story driven change"
- No achievements (due to microsoft limitation).
- New armor and weapons.
- Runtime for the expansion is 10-20 hours, but a lot of this seems based off puzzles.
- Quest is for the scattered body parts (or armor) of some ancient knight (so it's a multiparter).
- Doesn't go into specifics, but says they're working on more expansion packs - some small, some "gigantic" (direct quote).
- Nov 21st (monday) is the release date.
- Price is 800 points ($10)

Eric D. 10-27-06 02:42 PM

Um BD already has two, 2 disc special editions coming out, MI:3 and World Trade Center. And if anything BD had been dropping special features in order to make sure that there is room on the disc for decent PQ. So 50gb means nothing if they can't match the quality that HD DVD currently has. Plus Click was BD's first 50gb disc and it was pretty much a lackluster release. But the BD fanboys will just tell you that Click was only a test and the real 50gb will come out later. Whatever that means. So before you guys swear allegiance to BD and slam HD DVD, you really should read up about the two formats and make an informed decision in the HD Forum.

I got it as soon as you posted it. Not sure how that slid by everyone else.

It is all fluff on the extra 3 discs and is a marketing gimmick. They could easily fit all three on one disc and have a two disc set, but this is marketing in action and perceived value.

Michael Ballack 10-27-06 03:37 PM

I really dug the new Gears of War ad. I really never thought about Gears of War until now, the ad did the job for me. I found the music to fit in the trailer. It's better than the cliche of using rap/hip hop or heavy metal for a video game trailer.

Save Ferris 10-27-06 03:41 PM

I can see them eventually having 1 HD disk and then extras on DVD/CD for your computer or soundtrack for your car. As long as they can say on the package: "Multi Disk Special Edition!" they will be able to bump the price up $10-$15.

They had them in stock at best buy (for the ps2), but they were blue.

edit: just to point out the one I saw was not an official one from Red Octane.
