PS3 not initially capable of HD?
 

wow. what a joke. i just read on joystiq.com that the PS3 will not be capable of high-def right out of the box. for a company that claims the HD eras will not begin until the PS3 release, this is absurd news. the system, even the premium, 600 dollar version, will come with composite cables. no component, no hdmi, no nothing.

to me, that's ridiculous. for the majority of gamers, the system will be a christmas gift. this means unless people plan ahead, the first few weeks of gaming will be in 480p.

it seems like a shame for peoples initial experiences with an HD system will be standard definition. poor choice, sony.

thank goodness i am not a sony supporter, and will be using their system for mass financial gain, nothing more, nothing less.

for true, out of the box HD, it's xbox 360 all the way.

PS3 DOES come HDMI and HD capable. I'm not sure what you reading, how about a link?

i think hes whining that it doesnt COME with a cable in the box, like that somehow ruins the experience.

Well it is a little shady to braodcast how important HD is, and then not even enable the gamer to do it out of the box after spending over half a grand.

I understand cost issues, but Sony need's to shut their insistant clamoring about HD unless they are willing to back it up by action.

One the plus side, the PS3 uses the same component cable the PS2 does, so a lot of people with HDTVs will already have those.

Pretty sure you mean 480i. This has been discussed already in more than one thread. It doesn't sound like you were going to buy one either way so this thread is useless.

for the advertising and price, they could have included AT LEAST a component cable, as did microsoft.

Yep, 480p requires Component cables as well. 480i FTW! Oh wait, 480i is blurry and hurts my eyes these days, DAMN YOU HD! You've corrupted me. :( So yes, the PS3 is capable of HD out of the box.

And people complained about the original Xbox being too big. :lol:

Anyway, I don't have HDMI, since I am still using a standard definition TV, but I have read that you can get a HDMI cable for under $10. If you can afford both a PS3 and HDMI-capable HDTV, I don't think a $10 cable will break the bank.

The $600 version not coming with component cables blows my mind, because I would expect a very high majority that buys that version will have an HDTV. :confused:

I haven't seen the back of the PS3. Is the port a standard HDMI port or is it one of those stupid Sony proprietary things to make you buy one of their cables.

It's standard HDMI, with certain HDMI 1.3 aspects enabled.

Eh, I prefer to buy my own cables when possible anyway, so I can get the length, color, and quality that I want.

yep. That's what gets me. The Japanese excuse for not embracing the Xbox was its size. Yet I'm sure they will snatch up the PS3 behemoth in a heartbeat. Fucking hypocrites.

The ipod is almost $400 and doesn't come with a POWER CORD! I don't expect deluxe high-def cables for free, even with phenomenally expensive game consoles. Do Blue Ray or HD-DVD players come with HDMI cables included? I don't think I've ever bought a DVD player that came with an S-Video cable, let alone component video. This is a non-story, just like the one about needing an adaptor for memory cards. I'm beginning to think there's an anti-PS3 movement pushing their agenda on the net.

If you don't want a PS3, don't buy one. I'm guessing the demand will still be pretty big.

When I bought my iPod, it came with a power cable. Now I think they only supply the UBS cable, but if you plug that cable into a computer, it will charge the iPod.
