Nice one edstein! I'm really tempted to bite, but I haven't used my PSP in such a long time. I even had to reenter the date and time the last time I turned it on. I'm thinking though, if I get this memory card, I'd have a bunch of room for media, which might push me to actually use my PSP. Decisions, decisions...

Yep I figured it was something like that, didnt really pay close enough attention. Thanks! And yes having a single card that can hold many movies, game saves, and music will be nice!

So, anyone getting the PS1 games for the PSP? I know you need a PS3, but I just got one and debating how it all works....interesting.

I'd love to get some of those games but, I am not going to get a PS3 to do it. Maybe Sony could set up a kiosk in Best Buy or Gamestop to let PSP owners get these games without having to buy a PS3. I guess I could find a friend who has one. Which could be a problem since the only friends I know that have a PS3 are on the forum.

My kid's PSP won't load games. The disc just spins and spins and nothing happens. Any know problems or ideas on how to fix?

The PS1 games they've got up so far are pretty shitty (very few PS1 games have aged well to me, I'm an extreme hater of early 3D especially).. Tekken 2 MAYBE, but that's one of those series that's usually better to get the newest one (Tekken 5 is even on PSP, right?). I have to say that I'd probably enjoy a portable Final Fantasy IX.. though I'm not sure if that would translate to short bursts quite as well as the GBA iterations have.

I'm selling my iPod on eBay next week.. I was thinking about finally getting a PSP but I'm still really on the fence.. there's a few games I'd enjoy on it but I don't know if any of them are quite worth the initial $200 purchase yet. Gurumin would've done it if I didn't have that for PC and had already beaten it three times. I was going to import Princess Crown but then I heard how poor of a straight port it was (it doesn't even use the full screen!).. it's still an awesome game though.

I need to get myself a cheap wireless router so I can download the new PS3 update and check out how the whole PS1 to PSP works. The games they released so far aren't very impressive but it's early. I'm interested to see how the games run on the PSP, though. Can't wait until they put up Final Fantasy Tactics - I'll be all over that!

Novice question to those of you familiar with PSP and required memory sticks. I am not a PSP user, but am purchasing a unit as a gift for someone. From what I have read a Duo Pro Memory Stick is needed for the unit, and Sony and Sandisk seem to be the most common. However, Frys has a good price ($29.99!) after rebate on a Lexar Memory Stick Pro Duo 2 gb Platinum II. Is anyone familiar with this brand? Is it compatible with the PSP? Reliable? For those interested, by the way, the Fry's offer is good on purchases made 12/8/06 to 12/12/06.

IMO, Lexar is fine. It's probably made by Sandisk anyway. I can't remember if Lexar makes their memory or buys it from someone else.

Wow, just.. wow. This basically cements my theory that a previous member here (who eventually moved to the HD Forums to spin press for Blu-Ray) was probably on Sony's payroll to post here.

Well, as of Saturday I am officially a PSP owner (actually, I bought two.. ugh). I know posters here have been hearing me talk off and on since it came out about getting one and always rescinding due to lack of games, poor controllers, etc. If you thought I was bad here my friends got it worse, particularly my girlfriend.

Anyway, she wanted Loco Roco.. Gurumin was released in English and Dracula X was FINALLY getting a US release. Add in PS1 emulation and I just couldn't wait for that price drop.. plus I figured I'd better jump on while it was still easy to "customize" a PSP, heh.

Gurumin and Princess Crown are mine (bye-bye Saturn version!). Zanac x Zanac, Klonoa and Dragon Quest IV are on my memory stick. Yeah, it was worth it!! Playing Zanac Neo on the go gives me a special feeling.. I LOVE shooters but I have to say that when I sit down in front of my TV, short burst games are usually on the low-tier.. so being able to put some of my PS1 gems on the go just tripled their value to me (if only I could do it to Espgaluda).

I also think that Sony has secretly improved the d-pad over time. The first game I tested out the PS1 stuff with was Symphony of the Night.. and right off in the opening Dracula battle I was EASILY able to do Richter's secret dash attack (which is a circular motion up to forward) when I struggled and almost threw my friend's PSP attempting a simple fireball in Mega Man X (down to forward). In Zanac, diagonal movement was perfect.. on my friend's PSP with Bosconian.. impossible. So there you go. The analog controller is still.. weird, but I'm being told I'll get used to it.

i bought an analog stick from EB and popped the old one off

I also stuck on the D-pad mod from the Tekken DR pre-order. Good stuff indeed

Are those both undoable? I read that the d-pad they shipped with Street Fighter Alpha 3 was a permanent addition. I mean, if they're improvements, I don't see needing to take them off, but I still like to have that option (you never know).

they are definitlely un-doable, considering I've un-done it a few times myself. They use double-sided tape that rubs right off

the analog mod is just a matter of popping the old one off, and sliding the new one on. Definitely un-doable as well

Are you running any custom firmware? If so, what version?

Heh, of course.. that was the primary reason I got one, so I could transfer my PS1 games to the PSP. It's 3.10 custom, I believe. I'm not really interested in the more shady stuff it enables but it's the only way I could transfer my own games to it without 1) paying for them again, 2) having a PS3, and most importantly 3) expecting Sony to put the obscure crap (and imports) I like on their online store.

ah, you're one above me then (3.03 oe-c)

those custom firmwares are excellent, considering it makes it IMPOSSIBLE to brick you psp.

You can also have it disable the SCEA logo at the beginning, causing it to load 3 seconds faster. Not a big deal, but still nice none the less

Heh, well.. I don't want to dwell too much on the subject as it's probably taboo here.

I'll probably pick up Mega Man Powered Up soon. I hope they get Mega Man 2 and 3 upgrades as well.. anything after that.. yawn. I'm trying to see if there's been any action RPGs released on the system, import or not. Except for Ys VI.. which I already have for PC and PS2.

action RPGs?

you mean like Monster Hunter, or something?

I tried that Garumin, or however you say it last night. I was pleasantly surprised, and I didn't even think I'd like it. Sounds like it's right up your alley

Well.. now that I've beaten Gurumin four times I'm moving on to a new game (but just temporarily, I need my Gurumin groove in tact for the final and severely masochistic difficulty level).

So I'm playing Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins now. This is a very fun game.. something that would be getting a hell of a lot of praise had it been released on the DS (probably the same as Gurumin, to be honest). It's got that old-school, hardcore difficulty to it, but it's also something that once you get the hang of it, you can impress with mad dodging and killing skills. I've found two ultimate weapons so far (the electric whip is freaking deadly) and I'm dying to find the ultimate knife (my favorite weapon).
