Forget the Official PS3 Thread, we need an Official PS2 Thread
Hey Sony, if you want people to buy your $600 PS3, maybe you should stop making us spend all our money on your stupid AAA titles that you keep releasing for the PS2.
I mean seriously, it's getting a little ridiculous here. There's like a dozen awesome PS2 games covering pretty much every major genre that just came out or are coming out in the next month or two. You've got... Xenosaga III (RPG) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281602b.jpg Rule of Rose (Survival Horror) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281568b.jpg Disgaea 2 (Strategy RPG) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281524b.jpg Yakuza (Action/Adventure/Gangsta) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281522b.jpg Okami (Action/Adventure) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281438b.jpg Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (RPG) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281559b.jpg God Hand (Action) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281483bm.jpg Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner (Devil Worshipping Sim) http://media.gamestats.com/gg/image/...oxart_160w.jpg Tales of the Abyss (Action-RPG) http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/ob...oxart_160w.jpg Bully (Collumbine Sim) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281319b.jpg .hack//G.U. (Psuedo-MMO) http://www.gamestop.com/common/image.../281534brp.jpg Final Fantasy XII (RPG) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281613b.jpg Guitar Hero 2 (Rhythm) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281550b.jpg Sega Genesis Collection (28 Genny Games) http://www.gamestop.com/common/images/lbox/281638b.jpg And that's just the games that are only coming out on the PS2, to say nothing of cross-platform releases like Phantasy Star Universe, Lego Star Wars II, etc. Where am I supposed to get the money for all this? |
PS2 forever baby. I wish they come out with a grey version in the US. Damn you Japan damn you to hell.
|
And I haven't even bought Shadow of the Colussus yet. I kinda get the feeling that the Gamecube was the only console of the current/previous generation that really needed upgrading. I know I'm not the first person to notice that developers really hit their stride several years into a console's lifespan, having learned all the ins and outs and etc, and then the hardware company's yank the rug out from under them.
|
I've been playing Xenosaga III and Yakuza, having a blast with both. Although you really need to play XS I & II to get much out of III, I think. XS III has a recap for both games, but that's more for people who have already played the first two games, and then are wondering WTF was going on from 2 years ago when we last saw our intripid heroes.
Yakuza's a good game for people who liked Shenmue but wished their was less looking for sailors, and more kicking people's asses. And Okami comes out tomorrow, yay! This game is going to be SWEET. It looks amazing, and it's been pulling down 9.0+ across the board at all the major review sites. http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/ar...4033455508.jpg http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/ar...7044401618.jpg |
GHII is the only one of those I am remotely interested in. And, I'm hoping it comes out for the 360 instead.
|
Bully is not a Columbine Sim.
But you're right that Sony is actually showing that just because the next gen is here (or will be here when they say it is ;) ), that doesn't mean you have to abandon the last generation. |
Devil Summoner is not a devil worshipping sim, it's an action rpg whereby you're
a detective trying to solve a mystery. You can capture some of the enemies to use as your battle party member (one at a time) or field map helper/familiar (each type has a special talent... find items, tell enemy type, float). |

take it off the list of AAA titles. As a huge fan of PSO (9 characters, hundreds of hours logged and a few guides written) I can't politely express how disappointing PSU was. Stale monotonous gameplay would be an understatement. Everything is changed, and none of it for the better. Think Final Fight with level raising. |
And has anyone tried Rule of Rose? It looked like it was in the vein of Silent Hill, but looked like it could be a little too much like Silent Hill.
|
Ah, for some reason I had been thinking of PS2 and DS as the kings of Holiday 2006.. but looking at your list there's only two must haves: Valkyrie Profile 2 and Tales of the Abyss. Rule of Rose, Okami and God Hand are maybes. Then there's the Capcom Classic Collection 2.. which, if they remove the disgusting, putrid over-blurring of the graphics from the first disc, could be freaking awesome. I'm also importing Tales of Destiny, which will probably be my top game for the season! Hmm.. maybe there is a lot for me on the PS2, I might just be in shock knowing my DS collection is going to DOUBLE in the next couple of months.
|
Okami looks to be one of the games that will make me genuinely sad i never owned a PS2 - it looks incredible.
|
gonna get all except guitar hero and the genesis collection. awesome winter.
|
I agreed there are still some good games coming out for the PS2. I'm waiting for the first Tomb Raider to come out with upgraded graphics. Can't wait to see what the T-Rex look liked when it come chasing after Lara.
|
Dont be haters--Isnt the ps3 going to be backwards compatable??
Not that im buying a ps2 or 3, Im just saying. |

I have a good feeling (wish?) that when (if?) more developer focus is turned to the PS3 we may get some publishers looking for out-of-the-mainstream Japanese titles for some continued PS2 budget goodness. How about making a Cave shooter pack: Dodopachi Daiouju, Espgaluda, Mushi Himesama and Ibara on one disc?! What about the budget Ys remakes (I-V) combined for a single English release? More 2D RPGs?!
|
I don't see 2D, budget, and remakes being in the PS3 vocabulary.
|
I think he meant maybe some more of those will come out for the PS2 now.
|
Yeah, I see that now. That's a good wish.

Even if I do get my hands on a PS3 it's going up on ebay. I can wait a year before I get one for myself. Final Fantasy XII is the only game I need. That alone will keep me occupied for a couple of months.
You can't go wrong by saving some money and getting a PS2 instead of a next-gen console. Plenty of great games already on the shelves and more on the way. |
