Recommend USB Game Controller for Oldschool Games

Recently purchased the Logitech Dual Action Controller and have been happy.
However, I can't get the directional pad to work. The directional pad is a necessity for me when it comes to playing some old NES and Commodore 64 games.

Is there a decent controller that is USB compatible and has a directional pad that works?

I just bought a PlayStation controller adapter from Radio Shack a few years ago. The one I have is compatible with both PS1 and PS2 controllers. Works great.

Found it: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2348187

I got mine in-store, you might try looking there first.

I'm gonna get an Xbox360 wired controller for my pc. I saw a used one for $18.

I would bet that the controller works, but it isn't configured properly. The D-pad is usually configured as a POV hat switch, so it has a function that's different from the left analog stick.

If the games you're playing won't let you configure the controls to use the hat switch, see if there's a joystick configuration app that lets you map the joystick axes to the D-pad. You may have to switch configurations back and forth, because for some games you may want those extra functions, and some just insist on using the joystick axes for movement.

Even if you have a good controller, emulators are nowhere near as responsive as their real counterparts as far as controls go.

I have this cheapo logitech gamepad, works well with my SNES emulator. OK on genesis though the button layout isn't ideal for it.

I have an older Logitech gamepad, with a button that toggles between the D-pad and the left analog stick. Plus, if I want to use both at the same time, I can always program one or the other to emulate keyboard commands.
