how is the Xbox as a dvd player?
Is it much better than the PS2? Does it support progressive scan and DTS tracks? I'm just wondering if it's serviceable to use until I get a blu ray player in a few months.

1) xbox does not do progressive scan and DD only I believe plus requires a DVD Playback kit.
2) 360 does do progressive scan and DD/DTS.
3) only the new slim PS2's will do progressive scan.

There's a 2nd generation "thick" PS2 that is progressive scan compatible.

both my chipped xboxs are great DVDs players at 720p to boot. They are slightly loud, but they work great. I never have used them unchipped, but I know some who still do and like them

I think you might need to get your hearing checked my friend. Granted its louder than your average DVD player but not that loud... Also I agree with the statement about Blu-Ray being a waste of money....

I've always considered the Xbox a loud player (certainly louder than a regular dvd player, or PS2, for that matter), but it works pretty well with scratched or dirty discs. Ocassionaly I'll rent a movie that is a little too worn for my stand-alone player, but the Xbox will play it without hiccup.
